Itinerary
Day 1 Athens
Arrive into the vibrant capital of Athens, an effortless mix of ancient treasures and modern verve. This evening, meet your fellow travellers and travel director for a welcome reception.
Day 2 Athens
Join a local specialist for a sightseeing tour of the ancient complex that was once know as the 'Cradle of Western Civilisation'. Explore the Acropolis admire the Parthenon, the Royal Palace, Temple of Zeus and the Agora. See remarkable displays of the ancient world in the Acropolis Museum including Hadrian's Arch. The rest of the day is your to explore at leisure.
Day 3 Athens to Nafplion
Cross the mighty Corinth Canal to the wild Peloponnesian Peninsula. Join a local specialist in Corinth to explore the ancient city before continuing to Mycenae to see the Beehive Tombs, the Lion Gate and the remains of Agamemnon's Royal Palace. Later, travel to Epidaurus to visit the ancient theatre and view the Sanctuary of Asclepius before arriving into the Venetian town of Nafplion.
Day 4 Nafplion to Olympia
Traverse the Mountains of Arcadia to ancient Olympia, the site of the first Olympic Games in 776 BC. This evening, join the Karambellas family on their olive and wine farm for dinner with traditional dancing.
Day 5 Olympia to Delphi
This morning, join a local specialist to delve into centuries of history. Visit the Olympic site, museum and ruined remains of the Temple of Zeus and Hera. Skirt the coastline north to Patras, crossing the Gulf of Corinth to mainland Greece and Delphi.
Day 6 Delphi to Kalambaka
Tread in the footsteps of ancient Greeks who would descend on the Sanctuary of Delphi to consult with the most important oracle of the classical world. With a local specialist, walk the Sacred Way to the Temple of Apollo to view the statues immortalising the strength of the athletes who once competed in the games. This afternoon head to Thermopylae, famous for the heroic defence by the Spartans against the Persians, before continuing to Kalambaka.
Day 7 Kalambaka to Athens
Head to the UNESCO World Heritage monasteries of Meteora with a local specialist to visit two of the six Eastern Orthodox monasteries that cling to rounded rock towers overlooking the town. Enjoy a farewell dinner with your fellow travellers back in Athens this evening.
Day 8 Athens
Your tour comes to an end after breakfast.
