Itinerary

Day 1  Salzburg
Welcome to Salzburg!  This wonderous Austrian city is located near the German border and boasts an incredible backdrop of the eastern Alps with the old town and the new town divided by the Salzach River. After checking in to your hotel, why not amble over to the bustling heart of Salzburg’s old town, Getreidegasse which offers a broad range of dining options.

Day 2  Salzburg
After a leisurely breakfast, it is time to discover the winter wonderland located in Salzburg Altstadt (old town) a UNESCO World Heritage Site! The Christkindlemarkt at the Dom and Residenzplatz celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2024 and comprises over 100 festively adorned stalls with beautiful lighting above, imitating stars across the night sky. Stroll around the stalls with a steaming mug of mulled wine while picking up some handcrafted decorations and souvenirs. Visit a local church to admire one of the traditional Baroque Nativity scenes. If you are visiting the city at a weekend during Advent, perhaps attend an Advent choral concert and be enchanted by the well-known song, Silent Night, which originated from Salzburg in 1818.

Day 3  Salzburg
Perhaps spend the morning exploring Hohensalzburg, the largest, fully preserved castle in central Europe, originally built in 1077 and boasts 300 degrees of magnificent views of the city and the surroundings snow-capped mountains. Marvel at the architecture, wander the corridors filled with hidden corners and exciting secrets. This afternoon, opt to explore one of the main settings of the Sound of Music at Mirabell Palace and Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and discover the atmospheric Christmas market with its artistically decorated huts, boasting unique products and a variety of tasty treats.

Day 4  Salzburg
Take the time to have one final walk around the markets and purchase any last minute gifts before heading to the airport for your onward journey.

Additional Options: With a few extra days, the fantastic Christmas markets or Munich and Vienna are easily reachable by train.
