Itinerary
Day 1 Tokyo
Here amongst the bright lights and quirks of Tokyo, get acquainted with your new squad and do some DIY exploring.
Day 2 Tokyo
Bounce out of bed ready to uncover Tokyo. The ancient Buddhist temple of Asakusa Senso-ji, the lake woven grounds of the Imperial Palace and the Meiji Jingu shrine are just some of the doors we will open to this city. If history and religion don't get you going, perhaps soak up the wild fashion of Harajuku and the shopping district of Nakamise Street.
Day 3 Tokyo
Today is free for you to take on Tokyo your way. Check out the anime and electronics packed buildings of Akihabara or perhaps you're more about doing an epic sushi crawl.
Day 4 Tokyo to Hakone
Start today with a guided tour of famous Tsukiji - the world's largest and busiest fish market. Here, why not opt to learn the art of sushi making, or just kick back in one of the markets sushi bars and soak in the atmosphere. Later, your first overland journey takes you south to tranquil Hakone. Drink in Japanese mountain vistas from the Hakone Ropeway and spend the night in a traditional guesthouse.
Day 5 Hakone to Takayama
This morning hit the road in search of a long valley amidst the Japanese mountains. After a full day of exploring and ogling and Japanese countryside, arrive in Takayama.
Day 6 Takayama
Takayama is a made up of dark wooden buildings, Kanji signs and stunning surrounding hillsides. Grab a bike and take a cycle, then unwind from it all with a Japanese footbath.
Day 7 Takayama to Hiroshima
Journey to Hiroshima at a casual 320 kilometres per hour on the Shinkansen - the world's fastest train. The city is yours this afternoon to explore your way.
Day 8 Hiroshima
A city mourned over as the world's first atomic bomb target during World War ll, the mood will turn reflective as you enter Hiroshima. Thankfully, today this historical great has been declared a City of Peace, symbolised by coloured paper cranes denoting people’s prayers. Your day here will be one of learning as you take in the tragic recounts of World War II at the Peace Memorial Museum.
Day 9 Hiroshima to Kyoto
Welcome to the culture hub of Japan. Geisha girls, artfully manicured gardens, shrines and temples aplenty - looks like you're in Kyoto! Peel back this city's layers, visiting Kinkaku-ji Golden Pavilion, Nijo Castle and the Gion Area with your guide. You'll also have plenty of free time to explore by yourself.
Day 10 Kyoto
Today is free for you to get better acquainted with Kyoto. If you need recommendations your leader is on hand with plenty up their sleeve!
Day 11 Kyoto to Mount Koya
Enjoy a slow and leisurely morning in Kyoto before making tracks for Mount Koya. Tonight you will stay in a Buddhist guesthouse, eating traditional food and savouring the mindfulness and beauty of this incredible experience. For those looking for a digital detox amongst nature, it doesn't get better than this.
Day 12 Mount Koya to Osaka
Make the most of your last morning by rising early and partaking in the tradition of an early morning Buddhist service. A local guide will then walk you through the beauty of the Koyasan area and its centuries old cemetery, before the train journey to Osaka. For those who have stepped out of their quiet zone from the morning of serenity, it will be time to have a couple of sakes and take on the traditional Japanese pastime of Karaoke.
Day 13 Osaka
Today your Japanese journey comes to an end; depart at any time.
