Itinerary
Days 1-2 Tokyo
Discover some of the highlights of this vibrant city on a private half day tour. In the afternoon opt to visit Kappabashi Street, lined with dozens of stores selling every type of kitchenware imaginable.
Day 3 Tokyo
Enjoy a day to explore the vast capital at your own pace. With more Michelin-starred restaurants than any other city in the world, you'll be spoilt for choice.
Days 4-5 Tokyo to Takayama
Dine on traditional Kaiseki multi-course meals in your ryokan over the next two nights in Takayama. You will also uncover the unique history of the old town on a foodie walking tour, sampling a variety of delicious food and drinks.
Days 6-7 Takayama to Kanazawa
Travel by bus to the castle town of Kanazawa, with a stop en route at the historical village of Shirakawa-go. The next day is free for you to explore the highlights of the city. Why not stop for lunch at a local restaurant in Omicho Market, renowned for its fresh seafood and fine sushi? This evening, enjoy a selection of seasonal dishes on our Flavours of Kanazawa tour.
Day 8 Kanazawa to Kyoto
Stroll through the gardens of Kenroku-en before catching the train to Kyoto.
Days 9-10 Kyoto
Visit some of the city’s historic monuments on a private half day city tour. The following day, enjoy a Food Market & Cookery Class tour where you will be able to create a variety of Japanese dishes using produce from a local market.
Day 11 Kyoto to Mount Koya
Take a scenic train and cable car journey to Mount Koya and explore this picturesque monastic mountaintop complex. Check into your Buddhist temple lodging before being served unique Shojin Ryori vegetarian cuisine for dinner.
Day 12 Mount Koya to Osaka
Rise early to observe the monks chanting their morning prayers, before catching the train to Osaka. This evening, join our Flavours of Osaka tour and sample sumptuous local dishes including delectable Wagyu beef and lip-smacking tempura.
Days 13-14 Osaka to Fukuoka
Travel by bullet train to Fukuoka, the culinary capital of Kyushu. Embark on a mouth-watering food tour where you will visit the unique stand-up food shops and famous yatai street food stalls before spending a day at leisure in this fantastic city.
Days 15
Fukuoka Transfer to the airport.
Additional Options: Learn more about the history and production of sake, Japan’s iconic drink on this fascinating tour. Explore the Fushimi district of Kyoto, famous for its sake brewing history that stretches back over 400 years. After lunch at a local restaurant, visit the Gekkeikan Okura Sake Museum. Finish by sampling a range of sake from local breweries.
