Itinerary
Days 1-2 Tokyo
Arrive in this dynamic metropolis. The next day enjoy a full day city tour with a private guide, including a relaxing cruise down the Sumida River.
Day 3 Tokyo
A day to explore Tokyo at leisure. Alternatively why not spend the day soaking up the magic at Tokyo Disney Resort®.
Day 4 Tokyo to Fuji Hakone NP
Take the train to Hakone’s scenic lakes and peaks. Ride the cable car up Mount Owakudani before a boat trip across Lake Ashinoko; on a clear day you may catch glimpses of Mount Fuji. Stay overnight in a ryokan where you’ll enjoy a traditional Japanese dinner and take a dip in the onsen.
Days 5-6 Hiroshima
76 years on from the atomic bomb, Hiroshima has blossomed into a modern, vibrant city, with the poignant Peace Memorial Museum and Park a moving centrepiece. Just across the water, the sacred island of Miyajima is famed for the centuries old Itsukushima Shrine. .
Day 7 Hiroshima to Naoshima Island
Arrive on Naoshima Island, easily reached by train and a short ferry from Okayama. At the port, stop to admire the Red Pumpkin sculpture by Japanese pop artist Yayoi Kusama before heading to 4★Benesse Housewhere you will spend the next two nights. Explore this innovative museum/hotel complex where paintings, sculptures and installations are exhibited within state of the art architecture as well as outside in the island’s natural landscape. .
Day 8 Naoshima Island
Discover the island by bike or bus. Head to the Chichu Art Museum to see the works of artists such as James Turrell and Claude Monet. Continue to the incredible Lee Ufan Museum to experience more of the island’s mesmerising contemporary aft before exploring the town’s thought provoking Art House projects.
Days 9-12 Kyoto
Head to Japan’s cultural capital, home to a collection of historic monuments and designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With the help of your private guide, spend a day getting acquainted with some of the city’s landmarks including Nijo Castle and the golden pavilion of Kinkakuji. The next day take a short train ride to nearby Nara to explore the historic temples, shrines and spot free roaming deer, before spending a day at leisure.
Day 13 Osaka
Catch the train to Osaka. In the evening join our Flavours of Osaka tour to see why the city lives up to its motto of ‘eat till your drop’!
Day 14 Osaka
Transfer to the airport.
