Itinerary
Day 1 Tibilisi
Arrive in Tibilisi and transfer to your hotel. Relax before meeting your fellow travellers and tour leader this evening.
Day 2 Tibilisi
After breakfast take a sightseeing tour of Tbilisi. All the sights in the Old Town are very close to each other and within a few minutes walk. Afterwards, you'll have free time to further explore the capital. The evening is also free for you to enjoy. Perhaps indulge in Tbilisi's lively theatre scene and witness some of the energetic and acrobatic dance that Georgia is known for.
Day 3 Tibilisi to Kutaisi
Today board the train to the ancient city of Kutaisi. On arrival take a walking city tour and get your bearings, maybe stroll the cobbled streets of and head up to the ruins of Bagrati Palace and citadel.
Day 4 Kutaisi to Mestia
Visit a local farmer’s market, grab some snacks and get ready for the next part of your adventure, a journey to the remote Svaneti region, the highest inhabited area in the Caucasus. Later arrive into Mestia your home for tonight.
Day 5 Mestia
Discover how Georgians make their beloved cheese, found in many local dishes. Later drive to the village of Lakhiri and start your walk from the village in the direction of Mestia. After a little uphill walking descend to the beautiful valley enjoying amazing views of Chalati Glacier and Mestia Valley with its watchtowers. Those not wishing to hike can stay in the village or in Mestia.
Day 6 Mestia to Ushguli
Head to the World Heritage listed village of Ushguli, most famous for its abundance of watchtowers – this is where you'll see the famous view of the towers set to the highest mountain in Georgia, the snow capped Mt Shkhara. Visit the 12th Century Lamaria Church and walk to Queen Tamar’s tower.
Day 7 Ushguli to Mestia
Today's walk starts from the guesthouse. The route takes you along the river to the base of Mt Shkhara with an opportunity to enjoy some picnic lunch (weather permitting). The walking trail ends at the Shkhara glacier, where the Enguri River originates below.
Day 8 Mestia to Batumi
A long drive today from the mountains to the sea on the Black Sea coast.
Day 9 Batumi
In the morning enjoy a short tour of the city. The afternoon is at your leisure. Batumi has a relaxed atmosphere, great restaurants and nightlife. Stroll the boulevard, cool off in the musical fountains in the square or take a cable car for panoramic views over the city.
Day 10 Batumi to Tibilisi
Leave Batumi behind and head to Tibilisi. Stop at a local winery en route for some wine tasting. The rest of the day is free to explore at leisure. Perhaps enjoy a farewell dinner with your fellow travellers.
Day 11 Tibilisi
Your tour comes to an end after breakfast.
