Itinerary
Days 1-3 Vancouver
Spend the first few days of your adventure getting acquainted with Vancouver – a city of contrasts with both urban excitement and natural wonders in bucket loads! Once you’re checked into the Samesun Vancouver, the city’s most iconic backpacker hub, head out to see all the highlights – perhaps with a new mate in tow. Hire a bike and cycle the winding seawall, stop off Stanley Park for a picnic lunch and to see the famous totem poles, or maybe head to one of the city’s many beaches, where locals hang out, swim, and play volleyball on the sand until the sun sets. The next day, how about hopping on a shuttle to Capilano Suspension Bridge nestled in the forest, or taking the cable car up Grouse Mountain for spectacular views all the way to Seattle. If you’ve got more energy you can hike up the notorious ‘Grouse Grind’ instead, followed by a well-deserved beer at the top!
Days 4-15 Vancouver Island
Pick up your home on wheels from Cruise America’s depot in Vancouver, then take the ferry over to Victoria, keeping your eyes peeled for humpback whales and orcas in the ocean as you cross the Pacific to Vancouver Island. With the freedom and flexibility a motorhome brings, your itinerary is up to you, but in friendly Victoria you can’t miss the spectacular Butchart Gardens, alive with colour throughout the spring, summer and autumn.
Head north to the hippy towns of Tofino and Ucluelet, where you’re surrounded by untouched wilderness, secluded surf beaches and quirky bars and cafes serving amazing local delicacies to reward yourself after a long day’s hike. This part of the world rewards the intrepid, with hot springs to be discovered, an old army plane hidden amongst ancient rainforest, and secret beaches to be found when you trek that little bit further through Pacific Rim National Park. Tofino also has a dense population of black bears, so head out on a cruise with an expert guide to see if you can spot one of its furry residents looking for breakfast at low tide, along the rugged coastline. After ten days getting well and truly in touch with nature and learning about the area’s rich First Nations heritage, take the ferry back to Vancouver from Nanaimo and say a fond farewell to your motorhome.
