Itinerary
Days 1-2 Hobart
Begin your journey at the iconic 5★ MACq 01 Hotel, perched at the end of Hobart’s most historic wharf. Uncovering the tales of Tasmania’s people, each room’s décor is based on a historical real life character and resident ’storytellers’ run fascinating daily hotel history tours. On your second day visit Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary for a close-up viewing of Tasmanian devils.
Day 3 Hobart to Hamilton
Pick up your car and leave the coast behind. As you head west you’ll pass rolling fields and verdant forest valleys before arriving at your farmstay for the night. Soak up the rural views from the deck of your contemporary cottage, or perhaps join your welcoming hosts on an authentic tour of the working sheep farm.
Day 4 Hamilton to Strahan
Stop by the remarkable ’Wall In The Wilderness’ sculpture and picnic by Lake St Clair en route to Strahan. Set in a peaceful cove on the banks of Macquarie Harbour, your quaint hotel boasts an excellent restaurant from which to admire the stunning sunsets reflecting across the water.
Day 5 Strahan
Step back in time as you board a grand steam train to journey deep into the Tasmanian wilderness, crossing formidable bridges and stopping at old-fashioned stations.
Days 6-7 Strahan to Cradle Mountain
Use 4★ Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge as your base to explore the many walking trails of this stunning national park and after a day’s hike, cosy up by the log fire in the main lodge or spot wallabies grazing amongst the trees from your forest cabin.
Days 8-9 Cradle Mountain to Launceston
Continue to Launceston, savour a sparkling wine at the renowned vineyards of Josef Chromy and stay in towering grain silos that have undergone a clever architectural transformation into a chic hotel.
Day 10 Launceston to Freycinet NP
Take the scenic route to Freycinet National Park, stopping for lunch in the seaside village of Binalong Bay at the southern end of the spectacular Bay of Fires. On arrival at your boutique lodge, marvel at the unique structure of your secluded glass pavilion, nestled in the bush.
Day 11 Freycinet NP
A stroll to Honeymoon Bay at sunrise is the perfect way to start your day before enjoying one of the lodge activities on offer including scenic cruises or kayaking.
Days 12-13 Freycinet NP to Port Arthur
Just a short drive south, the charming wooden cabin at 4★ Stewarts Bay Lodge is the perfect final stop, with world-renowned Port Arthur Historic Site and beautiful coastal walks nearby.
