Craters & Valleys

Day 1  Arusha to Tarangire NP
Upon arrival in Arusha, drive southwest to Tarangire National Park, arriving at your camp in time for lunch. In the afternoon, head out on your first game drive amongst the varied landscapes of Tarangire, in search of the many animals which inhabit the park.

Day 2  Tarangire NP
Enjoy a full day game drive in Tarangire National Park to explore this untamed wilderness. With grassy savannah plains, huge swamps, the meandering Tarangire River and thousands of spectacular baobab trees, the park is known for its prolific birdlife and exceptional game viewing, particularly during the dry season (Jul - Oct). Seek out the large herds of elephants, zebras and wildebeest, as well as the leopards, oryx, kudu and eland that are found here.

Day 3  Tarangire NP to Karatu
Drive to picturesque Lake Manyara for a morning game drive. This popular park enjoys a spectacular setting beside the Rift Valley escarpment and is renowned for its tree-climbing lions, as well as herds of elephants and buffalos, flocks of flamingos and a multitude of hippos. After a picnic lunch continue to your lodge in the Karatu area of the Ngorongoro Highlands.

Day 4  Ngorongoro Crater
Drive to the Ngorongoro Crater for a full day game drive around the diverse terrain of this incredible area. Formed millions of years ago when a huge volcano collapsed in on itself, the crater boasts one of the densest animal populations in East Africa. The view from the 600m high rim is breathtaking, while on the crater floor the Big 5 are easily spotted with leopards protecting their kills in trees, massive black rhinos in search of fresh grass and Cape buffalo grazing with oxpeckers perched on their backs.

Day 5  Karatu to Arusha
This morning drive back to Arusha’s Kilimanjaro airport.
