Itinerary
Day 1 Antananarivo
Arrive into Madagascar's
capital and transfer to your hotel. Meet with you fellow travellers and
tour director for a welcome reception this evening.
Day 2 Antananarivo
to Miandrivazo
Prepare yourself
for a long drive as you head west to the small city of Miandrivazo, the
base to start your Tsiribihina River adventure. A briefing will outline
the next 2 days river cruise and time will be allocated to stock up on
supplies.
Days 3-5 Miandrivazo
to Bekopaka
Board a traditional
barge, once used to transport tobacco along the river, for a 2 day journey
along the Tsiribihina River. Over the next 2 days, spot wildlife on the
banks, enjoy easy walks to hidden waterfalls and visit rural villages.
Each night, set up camp on the sand bank and enjoy traditional Malagasy
music and dancing with the locals around the camp fire on the evening of
day 4. Disembark on day 5 and head to Bekopaka for a relaxing afternoon.
Day 6 The Small
Tsingy
Rise early as
today offers a hike through the Small Tsingy in Bemaraha National Park.
Scramble and navigate through a labyrinth of limestone formations, take
in the impressive surroundings atop lookout spots and unwind with a float
down the river on a pirogue (wooden dugout canoe). In the afternoon, enjoy
an easy cave stroll to see stalactites and eerie tombs of the first inhabitants
of Madagascar.
Day 7 The Great
Tsingy
Another early
start for an action-packed day at the Great Tsingy. Largely unexplored
until the 90's, the area now has a series of bridges, climbing plugs and
other equipment to make exploration easier. Pass over a sheer drop on a
suspended bridge for a breathtaking experience, while always keeping your
eyes peeled for the 11 species of lemur, 100 species of birds and 45 endemic
reptiles that live here.
Day 8 Bekopaka
to Morondava
Another long day
of travel, so kick back and relax as your driver crosses the Manambolo
and Tsiribihina rivers by ferry in time to catch a spectacular sunset over
the Avenue of Baobabs. These towering trees are native to Madagascar and
are a unique sight to behold.
Day 9 Morondava
to Antsirabe
Head to the capital
of the Vakinankaratra region and embark on an orientation tour upon arrival.
After dinner at the hotel, the evening is at leisure.
Days 10-11
Antsirabe to Antananarivo
After breakfast,
embark on a soft trek to discover the beauty of the local lakes. Later,
head back to Antananarivo for your final evening. Your tour comes to an
end after breakfast on day 11.
