Itinerary

Day 1  Antananarivo
Arrive into Antananarivo and meet your fellow travellers and tour director this evening.

Day 2  Antananarivo to Ampefy
Head out of the city to the Lemurs Park to see this indigenous species living freely. Start your cycle through scenic farmland and after lunch, transfer to the top of a highland pass for a ride downhill to Miarinarivo. The ride levels out as you continue to Ampefy where you will head to your lakeside hotel.

Day 3  Ampefy
Start the day cycling the dirt tracks to the geysers of Analavory, very similar to those found in Utah and you may find some locals swimming as they believe the waters of healing powers. Head back to Ampefy, detouring to Liliha waterfalls, a dramatic series of cascades that are perfect for a refreshing stop at the end of the day.

Day 4  Ampefy to Antisirabe
A short, but challenging ride today as you travel over varied terrain. Cycle through scenic landscape and climb to the town of Soavinandriana, before an undulating descent down and across a river to Kelivody. Load up the bikes and travel to an area rarely visited by tourists which provides an insight into Madagscan life, before continuing to the elegant city of Antisirabe.

Day 5  Antisirabe to Ambositra
Escape the morning traffic and head to Vinanikarena to start your long day of cycling. The road has some undulations and hill climbs, but the interesting scenery will be worth the ride. Upon arrival into Ambositra, visit a Zafimaniry wood carving workshop to learn about this local craft.

Day 6  Ambositra to Ranomafana NP
Transfer to Camp Robin before riding towards Ambohimahasoa through a landscape dominated with rice fields, pine forests, eucalyptus trees and jagged mountains. Cruise downhill through a ravine canyon, with tremendous views of the Namorona River and the rainforest to your home for the next two nights in Ranomafana National Park.

Day 7  Ranomafana NP
Enjoy a day off the saddle to explore the national park. With its rainforested hills and abundant wildlife, this has long been considered on of Madagascar's highlights. Walk through the park and learn about the abundant flora and fauna before enjoying a night walk to perhaps spot some nocturnal lemurs and chameleons.

Day 8  Ranomafana NP to Ambalavao
Transfer to the cultural and intellectual centre of Madagascar, Fianarantsoa before cycling a windy road to Ambalavao, the centre of Madagascar's wine industry. Climb a steady pass then enjoy  a fabulous descent with spectacular views to the city.

Day 9  Ambalavao to Isalo NP
Cycle to the Anja Nature Reserve to hopefully spot some ring-tailed lemurs in their natural surroundings this morning. After, continue to Ihosy to see the nomadic tribes herd cattle, pass through the mountain chain of Andringitra and see the sacred Bishops Hat. Continue via transfer through the huge desert-like Plateau de Horombe, famed for its deep red soli and sprawling savannah before reaching Isalo National Park.

Day 10  Isalo NP
Take a break from the bikes today and hike for a hike in then national park. Spend the day exploring this vast region of wind-polished and water-scoured rock towers, deep canyons, gorges and oases. Walk in the magnificent Canyon des Makis in search of ring-tailed lemurs and a natural swimming pool for a short swim stop.

Day 11  Isalo NP to Ifaty
Today is the last day of cycling - ride straight from the hotel through the dramatic rock formations to the national park. Continue to the sapphire mining town of Ilakaka and through isolated forests to meet your transfer. Drive through Zombitse National Park to reach the seaside beach resort of Ifaty.

Day 12  Ifaty
Enjoy a full free day on the beach - from July to mid-September you may wish to go whale watching as the migration of humpbacks passes the shores or perhaps simply to go snorkelling or diving as the area is protected by a large coral reef.
