Journey
Travelling by rail is one of the most relaxing ways to explore New Zealand.
Experience one of the most beautiful stretches of New Zealand, meandering along the rugged shoreline between mountains and sea, travel between Picton, the gateway to the Marlborough Sounds and the Garden City of Christchurch. Perhaps stop in Blenheim to visit local wineries or Kaikoura, famous for its marine wildlife.
You can often spot seals from the train as you continue along the east coast until finally the train cuts inland through rolling green hills to Christchurch.
Life on Board
The Coastal Pacific carriages are comfortable with air conditioning and panoramic windows. There is also a cafe-bar serving drinks and light snacks and a full length open air viewing car.
New carriages being introduced this year will feature un-tinted, non-reflective, panoramic side and roof windows and a journey commentary at your seat via passenger headphones, plus information displays and overhead HD video.
