Trailfinders' Beth Ellison gives an insight into Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa
Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa Expert Review
Beth Ellison
Hyatt Regency Maui is the southernmost property in Ka'anapali, and while this hotel doesn't have as wide a stretch of beach as its northern neighbours, it benefits from a more tranquil atmosphere and its grounds are truly stunning! Beautifully landscaped gardens are dotted with every colour tropical flower imaginable and populated by resident ducks and swans. In the semi open-air lobby, the hotel also plays host to a family of well-loved African penguins - and you can even join in with their daily feeding.
I'd recommend this property to both families and couples, as while there are plenty of great family amenities (like a separate kids' pool with waterslide) there's certainly enough space for adults to enjoy peace and quiet as well. The main pool is also incredibly deep (8-9ft in well-marked section) so you can enjoy a proper swim, rather than just a splash around!
Rooms are spacious and modern, equipped with clever smart tech like automatic lights under the bed if you get up in the night but don't want to blind yourself by turning on main lights!
Service was exceptionally warm and personal (as is generally the case in Hawaii), and the various restaurants in the resort provide a decent amount of choice and very good quality food. If you want to eat locally there are quite a few oceanfront restaurants in Whalers Village, approx. 30 mins walk north up the beautiful Ka'anapali beach path.
Top tip: If you visit mid-December to April, you'll likely be able to watch migratory humpback whales breaching just offshore! January to March is absolute peak whale season.
