Trailfinders' Hannah Farmery gives an insight into Uga Chena Huts
Uga Chena Huts Expert Review
Hannah Farmery
Uga Chena Huts is such a special hotel, the location, design and service were incredible! I highly recommend for anyone looking for a luxury stay or any special occasion.
The rooms are domed, very spacious, beautifully designed with a private pool and extra small touches like a bluetooth speaker, etc.
The main pool is expansive and very quiet as most guests spent their time at their own pool. We had the pool to ourselves both times we went and saw monkeys and a giant squirrel in the surrounding trees.
The game drives are fantastic with an experienced ranger - they take you away from the other jeeps (when it's busy) and they have passion and respect for the wildlife. The morning drive was quieter than the afternoon one – but this depends on the day of the week you're going, or if a cruise has arrived and is doing a tour.
Animals can come into the property grounds as there's no fence – we had an elephant visit one night! There's a host of other activities you can book too such as nature walks, stargazing and cultural visits.
I would love to go back and would recommend as a standout stay in Sri Lanka.
Top tip: Game drives are morning (6am) and afternoon (3.30pm). I would recommend arriving in time on your first day to do the afternoon game drive so you don't do two games drives in one day and can enjoy all that the hotel has to offer!
