Having been in the same family for generations, this lodge was built in the late 1800’s as the headquarters for their bi-annual cattle fair or Mela. Now lovingly restored, the property offers a homely retreat close to the shores of the Chambal River which is home to the critically endangered gharial (a relative of the crocodile), turtles, a range of birdlife and the elusive river dolphin. The Chambal Valley is renowned for its rich wildlife and with the aid of an experienced naturalist guide, guests can explore by boat, jeep, camelback or on foot. Village visits, evening nature walks and excursions to the temples of nearby Bateshwar can also be arranged (at own expense). When not on excursions, relax to the sound of bird song in the beautiful gardens or curl up with a good book in the library. The regular evening bonfires are a good opportunity to interact with other guests or simply sit back and do a spot of stargazing. Meals are authentic, locally sourced and served in the dining room or gardens. The 13 Rooms, Suites and Cottages are individually styled. They all feature colonial style furniture and colourful fabrics, and some have verandas.
