No two days are ever the same on a Galápagos cruise due to the diversity of flora and fauna found on each island. Your cruise will follow a carefully planned route, designed to maximise time at every location. Whilst the daily routine is similar for all ships, your wildlife experiences will depend on which of the islands you visit each day.

Here’s a short guide as to what to expect on a typical day on board a Galápagos cruise.

Early morning

Your day will start with a gentle wake-up call from the crew before a delicious breakfast. Rising early means you will be able to see the animals at their most active while temperatures are cooler.

Morning excursion

Set off on a panga (motorised dinghy) towards today’s first exciting sightseeing spot. Your guide will advise whether it will be a wet landing (arriving in the bay and wading ashore) or dry landing (stepping from the panga directly onto land). Depending on the island you visit you may be greeted by sea lions lounging on the sand, land iguanas basking in the sun or curious blue-footed boobies.

Due to national park regulations there will be a maximum of only 16 guests per guide and on most of the islands you will explore on marked trails to help preserve this unspoilt destination. Freshen up back on board before taking time to snorkel or enjoy a glass-bottom boat ride, if available.

Lunch

Return to the ship for a leisurely lunch on board with ample time to relax and marvel at the views. Dine on fresh seafood, Ecuadorian delicacies or a barbeque on the sundeck. Depending on your daily itinerary you might cruise to another location for your afternoon excursion, providing an opportunity to spot whales or dolphins in the water.

Afternoon excursion

With such an exceptional variety of wildlife and differing terrain on each island every excursion will feel totally unique! Your afternoon will generally follow the reverse order of the morning, to make the most of daylight and temperatures. Perhaps walk to a viewpoint for wonderful panoramic photographs, snorkel alongside majestic turtles or kayak the shores to see resting birds.

Whatever is planned for a particular day, you can be sure that the naturalist guides will have fascinating stories and seemingly limitless knowledge about these spectacular islands.

Evening

After your excursion there will be time to unwind before a wonderfully prepared dinner. Your guides will run through the itinerary for the following day and on most evenings there will be an optional lecture to learn more about this incredible destination. Enjoy recounting the day on the observation deck as you gaze at the stars before returning to the comfort of your cabin for a restful night’s sleep. Overnight the ship will navigate to a different part of the archipelago, ready for you to awake to another unforgettable day…
