Our adventure began at the <a href="../../hotels/middle-east/oman/jebel-akhdar/alila-jabal-akhdar" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Alila Jabal Akhdar</a> hotel close to Jebel Shams, Oman&rsquo;s highest peak, often referred to as the Grand Canyon of Arabia. The drive through the rugged mountains offers breathtaking views at every turn and as you arrive, the landscape transforms into dramatic cliffs and deep gorges, creating an awe-inspiring backdrop.
Hiking enthusiasts will find lots of trails here, ranging from easy walks to challenging treks. One popular route is the Wadi Ghul Rim Trail, which offers panoramic views of the canyon and surrounding mountains. The cool mountain air is refreshing and the sight of falcons soaring overhead adds to the adventure.
The Alila hotel is a beautiful private hotel nestled on the edge of a canyon with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and is the perfect place to relax after a flight and two and a half hour drive from the airport. There&rsquo;s a wide range of activities on offer including mountain bike hire, geology walks, stargazing tours, and the terrifying &lsquo;via ferrata&rsquo; which beats any coffee to wake you up in the morning!

After a restful couple of nights at the Alila we headed to Nizwa, one of Oman&rsquo;s most historically significant cities. Famous for its impressive fort and vibrant souq, Nizwa is a must visit for anyone wanting to understand Omani culture.
The Nizwa Fort, built in the 17th century, is an architectural marvel. Climb to the top for a stunning view of the surrounding palm date plantations and the Hajar Mountains. Inside, you can learn about the fort&rsquo;s history and its role in protecting the city.
After exploring the fort, make your way to the Nizwa Souq, where you can find traditional handicrafts, silver jewellery, spices and, of course, the famous Omani khanjar (dagger). The souq comes alive on Fridays when the lively goat market takes place&mdash;do not miss this unique experience!
To truly savour Omani flavours, try the local cuisine at one of the nearby restaurants. Dishes like harees (a wheat and meat dish) and halwa (a sweet confection) are not to be missed. The majboos (spiced rice with meat) was exceptional and even the local &lsquo;Icy Monkey&rsquo; cola was pretty good!
&nbsp;

From here it&rsquo;s a two hour drive to Muscat where tradition meets modernity. As you stroll through the streets, you will be greeted by the striking blend of ancient architecture and contemporary buildings. A must visit is the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, a stunning masterpiece that can accommodate over 20,000 worshippers. Its intricate design, adorned with handwoven carpets and a magnificent chandelier, is breathtaking.
After the mosque head over to the Mutrah Souq, one of the oldest markets in the Arab world. Here, you can lose yourself among stalls filled with spices, textiles, and traditional Omani crafts. Don&rsquo;t forget to bargain a little; it&rsquo;s all part of the experience! Enjoy a cup of Omani coffee with dates at one of the local cafes. Our guide advised that Omani dates are second only to Saudi Arabian dates; I&rsquo;ve never been a huge date fan but I&rsquo;m now a convert, especially paired with Arabic coffee and pistachio tahini.
In the evening, take a stroll along the Corniche. The sunset over the Arabian Sea casts a golden hue over the historic forts and coastline. Enjoy dinner at one of the waterfront restaurants and indulge in traditional Omani dishes like shuwa (slow-cooked lamb).&nbsp;
Unlike glitzier neighbours Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Muscat is a low-rise city with the tallest building a Sheraton hotel at 53 metres; wherever you look you have the striking Hajar mountains as a backdrop.

After diving deep into Oman&rsquo;s history, it&rsquo;s time to explore its natural wonders. The Dimaniyat Islands, a protected nature reserve, are paradise for snorkellers and divers. Located about an hour from Muscat, these islands are known for their clear waters and vibrant marine life.
Join a boat tour from Muscat to the islands, where you can swim alongside colourful fish, explore coral reefs, and even catch a glimpse of sea turtles. On the day we visited we saw loads of turtles, stingray and fish everywhere. The coral is as good, if not better than the Maldives.
Back on land we stayed at the two year-old <a href="../../hotels/middle-east/oman/muscat-beach-resorts/jumeirah-muscat-bay" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jumeirah Muscat Bay</a> hotel, a beautiful new addition to the Muscat coastline. Lovely hi-tec rooms combined with first class cuisine and an enviable private bay location make this a welcome respite after a day exploring. Remember it is hotter away from the mountains with Muscat approximately 12 degrees warmer than Jebel Shams.
We didn&rsquo;t visit, but Salalah in the south is a tropical gem that offers a unique blend of stunning landscapes, rich culture, and delightful experiences. Known for its lush greenery and beautiful beaches, Salalah transforms during the khareef season (June to September), when the monsoon rains turn the desert into a verdant paradise. Morning
Marrakech&rsquo;s Medina is a beautiful maze of narrow alleys and traditional souks, consequently it can be a bit overwhelming to navigate alone! Spend your first morning exploring the Medina with a local guide, on a small group or private tour. Our guide took us to the Bahia Palace and told us tales of the many wives and concubines of the King, whilst we admired their intricately mosaiced chambers. We visited a small bakery where the locals were preparing their Khobz, admired the beautiful pictures of old Marrakech at the photography museum, and visited a herbalist who taught us about the many uses of various native herbs and spices.&nbsp;

Afternoon &amp; Evening
After spending the morning discovering hidden gems with your local guide, stop off at a traditional Moroccan restaurant to try some of the local delicacies. Enjoy the sugary mint tea, served in opulent silver teapots, or perhaps indulge in a flavourful kefta tagine presented to you in a hand painted clay pot. Wander the souks some more this afternoon before settling on a rooftop for sunset. Visit the iconic Jardin Majorelle, otherwise recognised as Yves Saint Laurent&rsquo;s house. Read about the architecture and creative hydraulic techniques used, then head up to the rooftop cafe for a refreshing drink. Spend your evening at a local bar in the main square and enjoy an authentic experience with live music, perhaps paired with some local wine.

Enjoy a slow morning today at a serene Hamman Spa. How to Spend 3 Days in Marrakech

Begin your adventure in the port city of Casablanca, known for its striking Art Deco architecture and French inspired landmarks from Notre Dame to the Sacre-Coeur. How to See the Best of Morocco in 10 Days

On the western edge of the Arabian desert, in the spectacular wilderness of southern Jordan lies the otherworldly Wadi Rum desert. Whilst you&rsquo;ll feel as though you&rsquo;ve been transported to another planet, this awe-inspiring region is just an hour and a half drive from the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Petra, and less than an hour&rsquo;s drive from the Red Sea town of Aqaba.&nbsp;
Wadi Rum can be visited year-round, though for the sunniest days and warmer weather it is best visited between March and November, with the hottest months being July and August. I visited in March when it was a beautifully clear, t-shirt-weather day, although after the sun went down it got fairly chilly so layers were key!&nbsp;
&nbsp;

With its sublime red rock canyons, narrow ravines, and rolling dunes, there is no other place in the world which bears a closer resemblance to Mars. This has led to Wadi Rum becoming a favourite location for film-makers with many award winning films being shot here, including The Martian, Dune, Indiana Jones, Lawrence of Arabia and Star Wars &ndash; just to name a few!

After an exhilarating jeep safari discovering the most scenic and iconic areas, I travelled into the very heart of the desert to stay overnight at the magnificent <a href="../../hotels/middle-east/jordan/wadi-rum/memories-aicha-camp" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Memories Aicha&nbsp;Camp</a> which was a truly magical experience. Witnessing the stillness of the desert at sunset and seeing the stars come out is something I will always remember.&nbsp;

The Best Time to Visit Dubai

The first glimpse of Hegra set amidst sweeping sands that shimmer like gold dust is a truly humbling experience. No number of pictures or videos prepare you for the feeling of standing before these enigmatic giants and pillars of civilisations barely discovered. Navigating the vast windswept expanse of this archaeological treasure evokes a child-like curiosity and sense of overwhelming wonder as you come face to face with history left forgotten for almost 2000 years.
Saudi Arabia&rsquo;s first UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hegra bears testimony to the Nabataean civilisation &ndash; the same civilisation that built the ancient rock-hewn city of Petra. Across this undulating landscape, over 110 surviving tombs and monumental structures punctuate the desert sands, with ornate facades artistically carved into bare rock formations - the most iconic of which is the Tomb Of Lihyan Son of Kuza. Known as the &lsquo;Lonely Castle&rsquo;, Hegra&rsquo;s largest tomb is utterly breathtaking, rising singularly from the arid terrain. Journey through each heritage site, and be greeted by local Rawi&rsquo;s (storytellers) who bring the areas to life with their enthusiasm and expert knowledge. Without the convoys of buses, tour groups and crowds of selfie sticks, here you will feel like a true explorer, traversing unknown wonders.

There is something ethereal about a sunset in the desert, as the sun hangs in the balance between daylight and darkness casting vibrant hues of pink and gold across an ocean of golden sand. There are many places in AlUla where this moment is magical, but Elephant Rock has to be the most captivating.&nbsp;
Also known as Jabal Afil, this spectacular sandstone monolith rises 50 metres into the Arabian sky, set against a background of honey coloured terrain and impressive rocky outcrops. This unrefined structure shaped like an elephant with a distinctive &lsquo;trunk&rsquo; and &lsquo;body&rsquo; was formed by the natural erosive forces of wind and water over millions of years. As the heat seeps from the remains of the day, curl up on sunken seating and watch in awe as the last of the sun&rsquo;s rays and shadows dance upon the rock face, turning this imposing spectacle a magnificent shade of red.

The ancient city of Dadan is thought to have been one of the most developed 1st millennium BCE cities in the Arabian Peninsula. The capital of two kingdoms, Dadah &amp; Lihyan, who once controlled the caravan trade, this remarkable archaeological site carved out of sandstone mountains is thought to be only 3% uncovered and is one of the most significant discoveries in AlUla. One of its treasures is the display of tombs set 50 metres above the ground. The famous Lion Tombs are marked by seated lion sculptures, symbolising power and protection &ndash; it is thought these tombs belonged to prestigious members of society including royalty.&nbsp;
Close to Dadan, lies the remote desert canyon of Jabal Ikmah, where whispering rocks take the place of pages inscribed with hundreds of scrawling ancient scripts and captivating rock drawings. Used as a place for those passing through these ancient crossroads, messages for fellow travellers adorn the cliff faces ensuring these will be remembered for centuries to come. Walking through this open air library, gazing at records of lost languages, petroglyphs and images, it is as though you are peering back into a chapter of history dating back thousands of years, observing the lives of those who came before.

Fully abandoned in the 1980&rsquo;s, AlUla&rsquo;s Old Town is a testament to the destinations spectacular preservation of its heritage. Once a bustling town on the pilgrimage route from Damascus to Makkah, it is now a deserted labyrinth of 900 mud-brick houses, 400 shops and five town squares. Meandering past tightly huddled homes of mud and stone connected by narrow passageways, listen to fascinating stories told by a local Rawi offering an intriguing insight into the people and architecture of the area.&nbsp;
After winding through these atmospheric alleyways, continue to vibrant Market Street, a colourful arts and dining precinct bringing together music, art, gastronomy and picturesque handicraft stalls. This buzzing hub is a fantastic place to mingle with the friendly locals, dine on a variety of exceptional culinary delights at one of the numerous restaurants, listen to live Arabic music against twinkling lights and browse numerous local artisan boutiques &ndash; make sure to leave extra room in the suitcase!

From mystical rock formations to sandstone canyons and verdant oases, AlUla&lsquo;s epic landscapes are perfect for adventure. There are numerous walking and hiking routes that allow you to soak up the otherworldly scenery. For me, the beauty of Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, is its combination of guaranteed fly-and-flop winter sun and the multiple attractions of a city break.&nbsp;
I stayed at the wonderful, 5* <a href="../../hotels/middle-east/uae/abu-dhabi/shangri-la-qaryat-al-beri-abu-dhabi" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Shangri-la Qaryat Al Beri</a> for 7 nights, alternating between lazy, book-devouring beach days and exploring this city-of-islands&rsquo; many attractions.&nbsp;
November through March is the ideal time to visit Abu Dhabi with daytime temperatures averaging in the low thirties, balmy evenings in the low twenties and little humidity.
&nbsp;

With one of the world&rsquo;s best airlines operating out of Abu Dhabi, many people choose to break a long-haul journey with a stopover in the city, but this is a destination than deserves more than a couple of days to experience it.&nbsp;
Abu Dhabi is a city of distinct districts spread across several islands, separated by broad &lsquo;canals&rsquo; and connected by sweeping bridges. Where you decide to stay will be dependent on whether you are looking for beach (there are plenty), culture (museums &amp; mosques), activities (indoor skydiving &amp; the F1 track), theme parks (Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld &amp; more), nature (canoeing in the mangroves &amp; turtle conservation) or some combination of these.&nbsp;
Beach lovers can head for Saadiyat Island where low rise oceanfront luxury resorts sit on some of the best beaches in the UAE. Saadiyat it also home to the burgeoning Cultural District with the architecturally striking Louvre Abu Dhabi, fascinating Abrahamic House and Manarat Al Saadiyat.&nbsp; More museums are set to open soon turning this into a mini version of the Smithsonian zone in Washington.&nbsp;
Yas Island is the city&rsquo;s key entertainment hub and is exceptionally popular with families. Theme parks include Ferrari World Abu Dhabi (cue the fastest roller-coaster on the planet), Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi and Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi. It&rsquo;s also home to the F1 circuit and a host of other family attractions.&nbsp;
I chose to stay at the Shangri-La Qaryat Al Beri as its central location on the Grand Canal (Qaryat Al Beri means &lsquo;between the bridges&rsquo;) offers the best of all worlds.&nbsp;
This excellent hotel offers superb service levels and many facilities including an excellent beach and views of the Grand Mosque. Additionally, it&rsquo;s only a 20-minutes taxi rides to Saadiyat, Yas or the Corniche and there are numerous restaurants a short walk from the hotel in the Souk at Qaryat Al Beri or the newly-opened Al Qana district.
&nbsp;

The Louvre Abu Dhabi is a must visit for the architecture alone - a 180 metre dome that appears to be woven rather than built. Bursts of sunlight penetrate the large open spaces and these transform into horizontal orange bars as the sun sets. The collection is a manageable size and is supported by an excellent app that allows you to tailor you visits to take in the highlights.

In Abu Dhabi, rooms that include access to a hotel&rsquo;s club lounge facilities offer excellent value.&nbsp; I stayed in a Horizon Club Deluxe Room and benefits included breakfast in the club lounge, snacks and soft drinks in the lounge from midday to 11pm and cocktails and a very generous luxury buffet between 5.30-7.30pm as the sun sets.

Just Back From... Abu Dhabi

Welcome to <a href="../../holidays/the-middle-east/jordan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jordan!</a> Having left the airconditioned confines of the airport and been greeted by that wonderful embrace of holiday warmth as you step outside, make your way to the joining hotel. Today set off on half day trip to the ancient city of Jerash, one of the largest and best-preserved Roman ruins outside of Italy and a must see for any first time visit to Jordan. As you wander the paved streets, you&rsquo;ll pass handsome theatres, ornate baths and impressive fountains before continuing to the Dead Sea.&nbsp;
Located at 400m below sea level, the Dead Sea marks the lowest point on earth. This majestic turquoise lake, lined with salt crystals has drawn visitors for centuries for the therapeutic qualities of its mineral-rich waters. Seize the opportunity and take a dip in the sodium-rich waters. Due to the incredible salinity of the Dead Sea you will float unaided, giving the wonderful sensation of weightlessness, a unique experience not to be missed. Afterwards make the short journey back to Amman.

For the history lovers, this is the day for you! Starting the day with an early morning visit to Mount Nebo, delve into more wonders as you explore the believed location of Moses&rsquo; death. Afterwards, work up an appetite with a trek to the summit and be rewarded with stunning views over this golden landscape.&nbsp;
Next continue to Madaba to see the city&rsquo;s beautifully intricate mosaics, before stepping back in time with a visit to the impressive hilltop Karak Castle from the crusades. End the day as the sun starts to set by arriving at Wadi Musa, a town just outside of the historic Petra.

The day that encapsulates any trip to Jordan and one of the primary reasons to visit this beguiling country, Jordan&rsquo;s Wonder of the World &ndash; Petra. Starting at sunrise, embark on a guided tour to this iconic, UNESCO World Heritage site. First take in the astounding colours and patterns of the rock, as you snake your way through the Siq, a narrow, 1km-long ravine flanked by soaring 80m-high sandstone walls before you catch your first glimpse of Al-Khazneh, the famed treasury of Petra.
Explore in depth with your CEO (Chief Experience Officer) whilst learning about a brief history of the city and how the Nabateans carved from the rock in the surrounding mountains. In the evening, opt for an unmissable experience to visit the iconic Petra by night. Today continue your journey south with a scenic drive to Wadi Rum. A vast and silent landscape of ancient riverbeds, towering sand dunes and famed for its use in Hollywood, with the award winning 1962 film Lawrence of Arabia putting Wadi Rum on the map. On arrival embark on a white knuckle 4WD excursion through the colourful desert as you climb up some of the colossal sand dunes before reaching your Bedouin camp for the night. Finish this incredible day with a sumptuous meal, cooked in an underground oven and learn about the traditional Bedouin culture whilst you sit around the campfire under a blanket of stars above.

Today travel to the coastal, Red Sea town of Aqaba. Although home to a charming ancient fort and a handful of old archaeological remains, the main draw to the region is its azure waters and sandy beaches. Situated at the country&rsquo;s southernmost tip, Aqaba offers an idyllic and relaxing setting on the shores of the Red Sea. On arrival, make the most of some leisure time to enjoy the beach or take advantage of what is considered some of the best snorkelling and diving opportunities in the world, marvelling at Aqaba&rsquo;s spectacular coral reefs. In the evening why not sample some of the delectable seafood from the town&rsquo;s great restaurant scene.
&nbsp;

After a leisurely morning, head back to Amman on the Desert Highway. En route break up the journey with a stop at the delightful G Adventures- supported community cafe for lunch. Upon arrival in Amman, finish off this journey in style and enjoy a final night out with your fellow travellers.

Alas the trip comes to an end. With memorable experiences and hopefully new friends made, make your way to the airport for your onward flight home.

How to See the Best of Jordan in 8 Days

<a href="../../hotels/middle-east/uae/beyond-abu-dhabi/qasr-al-sarab-desert-resort-by-anantara" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Qasr Al Sarab</a> is a 5* desert resort in the UAE. Only around two hours from Abu Dhabi, it is situated where the borders of the UAE, Oman and Saudi meet with orange sand dunes reaching the horizon in every direction.
Resembling an old Arab fort in the Empty Quarter, it is one of the best hotels I have been to.
&nbsp;

Qasr Al Sarab has stunning scenery and sunsets over the desert. For those looking to get away from it all, this is a perfect spot. The resort also offers a wide range of activities including 4WD excursions, fat biking, guided walks, falconry &amp; horse riding to name but a few.&nbsp;
My two teenage sons were happy with the ample Instagram opportunities at the large pool or on the dunes. As it&rsquo;s so easily accessible from Abu Dhabi, it makes for a great twin centre option when visiting the UAE.
&nbsp;

Two things really stood out:
1) Fat biking over the desert at dawn
2) The quality of the food, especially the breakfast.
&nbsp;

Pre book all your activities and stay 3 nights rather than 2 to maximise your experience at this wonderful resort.

Explore the Natural Beauty and Culture of the United Arab Emirates

No trip to <a href="../../holidays/the-middle-east/jordan">Jordan</a> is complete without a stop at one of the Wonders of the World. This UNESCO World Heritage site was once used as a trading area for the Nabateans and then housed many of the Petra Bedouin tribes people until it become a World Heritage Site in 1985.
Getting up early to beat the morning crowds is 100% worth it, as you'll get to see the treasury without having to jostle through as many tourists. Be warned though; by about 10am the place is packed full of people. Make sure you bring loads of water, your camera and wear sensible shoes; either trainers or walking boots are ideal. Be prepared to do a lot of walking and dedicate a whole day to the site if you want to achieve reaching the top three viewpoints around Petra.
&nbsp;

Spanning 278 square miles of desert wilderness, <a href="../../holidays/the-middle-east/jordan/wadi-rum">Wadi Rum</a> is a must visit whilst you are in Jordan.
Due to it&rsquo;s unique landscape, Wadi Rum has also featured in many Hollywood blockbusters including Star Wars, The Martian and Moon Knight. The best way to explore is with a 4x4 jeep safari tour; simply hop on the back and enjoy the breathtaking views. Look out for the carvings on the sides of some the rocks that often tell a story of decades before.
Make sure you stop by the Burdah Rock Bridge where, with a bit of scrambling, you can climb right to the top. If possible stay for the sunset so you can see the glorious orange and red hues as the day comes to an end. To finish in style, stay at the amazing <a href="../../hotels/middle-east/jordan/wadi-rum/memories-aicha-camp">Memories Aicha Camp</a> with it's luxurious tents, decorated in an ornate yet modern Arabian style. Get your float on at the lowest point on Earth. <a href="../../holidays/the-middle-east/jordan/the-dead-sea">The Dead Sea</a>, which is actually a lake, is said to have healing properties.
Watch people flock to the (slightly slimy feeling) water from around the world to try to relieve their skin ailments. Cover yourself in the sea&rsquo;s mud (old bathing suits are advised), wait for it to dry then wash it off whilst floating in the sea. Make sure you take a newspaper from your hotel if you want to get that classic Instagram picture.
There are a variety of hotels you can stay in near the Dead Sea; if you're after luxury, head to the 5 star hotel&nbsp;<a href="../../hotels/middle-east/jordan/dead-sea/kempinski-hotel-ishtar-dead-sea">Kempinski Hotel Ishtar.</a>&nbsp;Alternatively, you can reach it from Amman in less than an hour. And it&rsquo;s best to do so before its too late, as experts have discovered that the Dead Sea is actually disappearing and may be gone in 70 years.
&nbsp;

If you have a bit more time to spare and would like to relax from sightseeing, then head down to <a href="../../holidays/the-middle-east/jordan/aqaba">Aqaba</a>. Located at the very southern point of Jordan, the temperature is sure to be a fair few degrees warmer than the north. Avoid the public beaches, as they can be overcrowded and you will struggle to find a patch of sand to rest on. Instead pay to go on the private beach, or better yet if there's a group of you hire a boat for the day and set off out on the Red Sea. Make sure you take your snorkel with you and marvel and the underwater delights.
For those with diving certification head further down and explore the sunken warplane and military tank. Deliberately sunken to be used as artificial reefs, get your Go Pro in hand and explore these somewhat eerie dive sites.

Often overlooked by people heading to Jordan, the capital city of <a href="../../holidays/the-middle-east/jordan/amman">Amman</a> has a lot to offer. Delicious food can be found from all around the city, among the most famous is Al Quds Falafel. Apparently fit for a King, this small hole in the wall on Rainbow Street is known for being King Abdullah II's favourite spot. Expect queues down the street during busy times, but the wait will be worth it.

Next stop, Qatar

On the outskirts of <a href="../../holidays/the-middle-east/saudi-arabia">Saudi Arabia's</a> capital city Riyadh is Jebel Fihrayn, more commonly known as the &lsquo;Edge of the World&rsquo; &ndash; a favourite spot for locals. A must see in Saudi is AlUla (pronounced Al-oolah), a landscape captured in time. Just an hour and 45 minute flight from Riyadh, AlUla is a region of extraordinary natural beauty with endless golden dunes, ethereal rock formations and lush oases nestled in the valleys. The oasis in AlUla stretches to an enormous 7 miles long and contrary to the myth that deserts are baron &ndash; has over 2.3 million date palm trees.

A 4 hour drive from AlUla by the northwest borders of the country is the city of Tabuk (pronounced Tah-book) which for centuries has been a resting point for Jordanian and Egyptian pilgrims and is rich in Bedouin culture. South of the city lies the wonderful Wadi Al Disah, Saudi&rsquo;s answer to Arizona&rsquo;s Grand Canyon combined with Monument Valley. Jade palm trees line the base of the wide gorge which is encircled by dramatic, red rock walls, and caves within the cliff faces house fascinating centuries-old petroglyph etchings.

When I think of Middle Eastern food I think of the homemade hummus and crispy falafels with freshly baked pittas that my Bubba (Grandma) used to make, some of the delights that are classic dishes in Saudi. Traditional Saudi cuisine has evolved over centuries from the influences of neighbouring Middle Eastern countries, and uses fragrant spices and fresh local ingredients inspired by the trading heritage of the country. Let&rsquo;s take a look at a typical daily diet and local delicacies that you will enjoy on a holiday to Saudi Arabia:&nbsp;
Breakfast - Whet your appetite for the day with a traditional Saudi breakfast. Choose from toppings such as cheeses, honey, and date jam to have on flatbreads or perhaps shakshuka - a warmly spiced tomato dish, often with peppers or onions and eggs cracked in the middle.&nbsp;

The Kingdom has a notable caf&eacute; culture with coffee shops aplenty to set you up for a brew-tiful day! Arabian coffee, or &lsquo;gahwa&rsquo; which translates as &lsquo;that which prevents sleep&rsquo;, uses Arabica beans and has a real richness in taste from the use of spices and the manner of which it is served - in tiny decorative cups called finjen.

AlUla is truly the STAR of the show, being home to some of the best star gazing around the globe. Perhaps the most famous of the lakes and with good reason!&nbsp;
Set at the foot of the Italian Alps, Lake Como has established itself as a hotspot destination for the rich and famous. And it&rsquo;s no wonder - elegance and opulence are everywhere here; in the Renaissance architecture through to the beautifully crafted gardens. Perhaps the most famous gardens being Villa Balbianello, where in the summertime music events are hosted in the grounds and history buffs can learn about the building&rsquo;s history.&nbsp;
TOP TIP: With short distances between towns, you can visit at least three or four villages surrounding Como by local transport easily to maximise your visit.

Often overlooked, Lake Iseo shouldn&rsquo;t be missed off your next Italian Lakes holiday. Escape the crowds to this hidden gem, situated between Lake Garda and Lake Como. Use the ferry system to journey between the quaint villages where you can hop between museums and churches or spend an afternoon in the Franciacorta wine region. Famous for its sparkling wine, castles, monasteries, and historic villages set against an evocative patchwork of woods and vineyards, a visit here is a must!
TOP TIP: Pack your swimmers and take yourself for a dip in the lake, it&rsquo;s warm enough from spring through to autumn.

For travellers interested in adventure activities, head to Lake Garda. From hiking and sailing to climbing and windsurfing it&rsquo;s an outdoor enthusiasts paradise.&nbsp;
The largest of the lakes, Garda may also take the prize of most beautiful lake too. Enjoy the crystal-clear waters and rolling green hills, or spend your time roaming the olive and lemon groves. The small town of Sirmione, on the western side of the lake, is most popular. Spend a day at the spa, visit the castle, or cruise around the peninsula by boat.&nbsp;
TOP TIP: Head the western side of the lake and visit Limone, famous for the production of citrus fruits, and visit the lemon gardens that you can admire along the lake shore.

Perhaps one of the most underrated Italian Lakes, head to Lake Orta for stunning sunsets and delicious local food.&nbsp;
Marvel at the glamorous townhouses in the main town of Orta San Giulio. The foodie scene here is spectacular with Michelin-starred restaurants and family-run eateries around the lake; there really is something for everyone. Choose to take a walk around the &lsquo;Island of Silence&rsquo; or take the uphill climb to visit the pilgrimage site of Sacro Monte di Orta.&nbsp;
TOP TIP: Visit the central piazza of Orta San Giulio after dark. Its frescoed sixteenth-century town hall built on stilts provides lovely views right across the lake, which is lit up exquisitely at night.

For many travellers, the summer is the best time to visit Iceland. Ranked as one of the best drives in the world, the Great Ocean Road &ndash; which connects Melbourne in Victoria and Adelaide in South Australia &ndash; is truly remarkable.&nbsp;
