Crowds: This is the peak tourist season in Cambodia, so popular attractions can become crowded. Booking accommodations and tours in advance is recommended.

Weather: During this time, temperatures can soar to 35˚C to 40˚C with high humidity. The intense heat can make outdoor activities difficult, especially in the afternoon.&nbsp;

Festivals &amp; Events: Cambodia&rsquo;s cultural calendar is rich with festivals. The Khmer New Year in April is a key celebration with parades, traditional games and ceremonies. The Water Festival in November marks the end of the rainy season with various boat races and celebrations.&nbsp;
Temple Visits: For a calmer experience at Angkor Wat, consider visiting during the late morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat and the crowds. The temples are especially spectacular at sunrise and sunset.

Best Time to Visit Cambodia

Flights from the UK &amp; Ireland tend to arrive in the early afternoon and it&rsquo;s about an hour&rsquo;s drive from Bangkok Airport to the city centre. Especially if it&rsquo;s your first time, I recommend staying at one of the hotels on the Chao Phraya River, in a room with a river view.&nbsp;
We stayed at the excellent Anantara Riverside, which like most of these river hotels has a lovely peaceful pool to give respite from the busy city.
Hotels in Bangkok offer great value and with some help from the hotel's concierge desk it&rsquo;s easy to get about the city. Don&rsquo;t be daunted by the capital city of the 'Land of Smiles', it&rsquo;s a very friendly place.
&nbsp;

Freshen up, then head out to a rooftop bar for colourful cocktails, a lovely temperature and fabulous views of the city as night falls and the skyline lights up. We went to the Moon Bar at the Banyan Tree hotel, currently rated the No.1 rooftop bar in the world and an Instagram hotspot, but there are dozens to choose from.
In Bangkok, you are spoilt for choice of places to eat, from the street food stalls in Yaowarat Road night market in Chinatown, through to Michelin starred restaurants. On local advice we booked a restaurant called Charmkrung which offers a modern take on Thai food and is one of the best meals I have ever had &ndash; and at a very reasonable price.&nbsp;
If you have the energy there are no shortage of options for a nightcap; from sophisticated live jazz bars like Brown Sugar, to street stalls charging &pound;1.50 for a local Chang beer. For old times&rsquo; sake we got tuk-tuks to the Rambuttri/Khao San Road area, which still looks much as it did in the 90&rsquo;s when it was 'the' backpacker crossroads in Asia. The kids loved it almost as much as we did.
&nbsp;

Enjoy a lovely breakfast overlooking the river. There is so much you could do today in Bangkok, but my suggestion would be to get a taxi to Hua Lamphong station and take the 2.5 hour airconditioned train to Ayutthaya, the ancient capital of Siam dating from 1350. On arrival have lunch at one of the floating restaurants on the river and then hire pushbikes or take a tuk-tuk to explore the incredible temple complexes which cover many miles.
&nbsp;

Once you have seen sufficient Buddhas, stupas and temples, get the train back and have a well-earned traditional Thai massage at your hotel or one of the many massage parlours around Bangkok.
&nbsp;

After some dinner get a taxi to the Rajadamnern Stadium to see a couple of bouts of the Thai national sport &ndash; Muay Thai Boxing. It&rsquo;s more ritualistic than regular boxing but it can be brutal as fighters are allowed to use their knees, elbows, feet and fists.
&nbsp;

The joy of travelling is as much about the journey as the destination (to misquote Mark Twain) and no trip to Bangkok would be complete without taking a longtail river bus up the Chao Phraya River. There is so much to see as you head up the river, but also plenty to stop for.
&nbsp;

Disembark to wander through the Pat Klong Talat flower market for a riot of colour and plenty of the orchids which Thailand is famous for.
&nbsp;

Then pick up the next river bus to the Grand Palace dating back nearly 250 years. If you wish to go inside you need to be covered up &ndash; albeit you can rent a sarong there if you have gone in shorts.
&nbsp;

Enjoy a trip back along the river back to your hotel taking in the sights and smells at the heart of this fascinating city.
Your 48 hours are up and it&rsquo;s time to move on to the next stop on your adventure. That being said, you still haven&rsquo;t seen the famous floating market, the Bridge over the River Kwai, had a Thai boxing or Thai cooking lesson, or been shopping at the crazy MBK centre &ndash; so you&rsquo;ll need to come back again.

How to Spend 48 Hours in Bangkok

Make use of the activities and facilities available to you. Like most 5★ properties, Tanjong Jara has a gym, tennis court, a couple of swimming pools but I&rsquo;d like to mention a few stand-out activities and facilities on offer.&nbsp;

For families the resort has a brand new top of the range games room complete with a table tennis table, pool table, multiple game consoles and an impressive karaoke booth. The watersports department also deserves a special mention where snorkelling and diving trips can be organised to nearby Tenggol Island where the clear waters and vibrant marine life are good enough to rival any top diving destination. Not to mention between August and October the island is frequented by whale sharks which are regularly sighted.&nbsp;
However, my top tip&hellip; Make time for the resort's most popular guest, the resident green sea turtles. The resort has its own hatchery on site and for me it is what makes it such a special and unique place. I mean how many resorts have you stayed at which has its own turtle hatchery? Here, guests are offered the opportunity to delve into the captivating world of sea turtles. Discover these majestic creatures that inhabit the oceans, learning about the challenges they encounter and if fortunate, you&rsquo;ll be able to witness the mesmerising emergence of young hatchlings at night and guide them to the water.

Hong Island is regarded as one of Krabi's most beautiful. With calm shallow waters surrounding the cliff lined white sandy beach it is ideal for swimming and snorkelling.&nbsp;
Phi Phi islands are just a 45 minute speedboat ride away from Krabi and are some of the most picturesque islands in South East Asia, offering stunning beaches, dramatic rock formations and clear waters full of marine life.&nbsp;There are six islands, the most famous being Phi Phi Don which is inhabited and attracts tourists all year round. Phi Phi Leh, in contrast, is uninhabited with many stunning bays and beaches including the world-famous Maya Bay which was the settong for Leonardo DiCaprio's film The Beach.
Tham Phra Nang Beach&nbsp;on the southern tip of Railay Bay, gets its name from a mythological Princess who is said to have made this beach and cave her home. Once you've seen it you'll understand why she made the choice! The shallow turquoise waters, caves and limestone cliffs protect the bay from roads, pollution and infrastructure, making this coconut lined beach one of the world's most beautiful.

The natural beauty doesn't stop at the beach. There's plenty of eye-catching scenery away from the sunlounger!
The Tiger Cave Temple is a sacred Buddhist temple that sits on a 600 meter high cliff just a 10 minute taxi ride away from Krabi. Famous for its tiger paw prints in the cave, towering Buddha statues and 1,237 steps leading to the summit, you won't find any tigers here but you will find monkeys!&nbsp;Although they are friendly make sure you put everything in your bag as you climb up as the cheeky devils love to pilfer things and may not give them back!
Top Tip: Visiting in the early morning or at sunset is a great way to avoid the crowds and see the temple under the changing skies, just don't forget a torch! Take enough water with you and keep your bottle - you can refill it at the top of the mountain.
Khao Ngon Nak National Park,&nbsp;meaning Dragon Crest Mountain, is an amazing place to experience the rainforest and witness a beautiful view. The park has a 3.7km trail that leads to a viewpoint sat over 500 meters above sea level with incredible views over the ocean and surrounding islands. Just 30 minutes from Krabi by taxi it is easily accessible, just don't forget to snap a photo of the map at the beginning in case you need it later on!

Surrounded by technicolour coral reefs, flashing schools of fish and beautiful soft corals, diving and snorkelling are one of the best things to do in Krabi, and there are scores of Padi certified dive centres in Ao Nang or Railay Beach. You can dive the famous King Cruiser Wreck or go in search of the beautiful leopard shark that inhabits the waters offshore.&nbsp;Glass bottom boats are also a great way to see into the underwater world without having to get wet and kayaking is also a really fun and unique way of exploring the scenery, islands, mangroves, canyons and caves of this spectacular region.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Top Tip: Visibility is best between January to March so if you are coming for the diving these are the months to choose.

Ao Nang walking street is a permanent bazzaar-like shopping complex offering shopping, eating and other services such as tailors and opticians.&nbsp; It is partially covered and is at the southern corner of Ao Nang road. The market is a lively place for food and drinks as well as your classic souvenir shopping. From silver and gold jewellery to traditional Thai dress you are sure to find anything you want here!

Top 5 Things to do in Thailand

The first stop on my South East Asia adventure was Singapore, a contrasting destination of the traditional and modern, with glistening architecture, outstanding shopping malls, vibrant neighbourhoods and worldwide cuisine. I stayed on Orchard Road, a bustling street with countless of shops and entertainment outlets and a fantastic location to access all the highlights of the city, including the Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, Clarke Quay and Kampong Glam.
Only a short 90 minute flight north takes you to Phuket, an island located in the south of Thailand in the Andaman Sea. During our 12 days in Thailand, I visited the laidback beach town of Khao Lak, the prestigious Elephant Hills Tented Camp located in Khao Sok National Park and the stunning beaches of Phuket.&nbsp;
Khao Lak was the perfect destination to settle into my Thai adventure &ndash; a slow paced town with stunning hotels lined along the golden Bang Niang beach. I spent my days here chilling around the pool making the most of the many happy hours and in the evening, strolling into the town and dining at the fantastic local restaurants.&nbsp;
Elephant Hills Tented Camp in Khao Sok National Park was my second stop in Thailand where I embarked on a four day Rainforest Nature Safari. I visited and fed the resident elephants, kayaked through mangrove forests and on Choew Larn Lake and trekked through the rainforest. A firm favourite with TF clients and I can now see why!
The second half of my holiday was split between two beach resorts in Phuket, Nai Harn Beach and Bang Tao Beach. Nai Harn Beach is a quiet bay near the southern tip of Phuket with pristine golden sands lined with local shops and restaurants. Our final stop was Bang Tao Beach, a much larger beach set against a stretch of hotels, beach restaurants and bars and watersports available to hire. There&rsquo;s plenty to do from both locations, but I spent days around the pool or at the beach and visited the surrounding towns in the evening for a bite to eat. The sunset we saw on our final night here was one of the best I have ever seen.

If you&rsquo;re looking for variety in the places you visit, a multi centre trip around South East Asia is the kind of holiday for you. Experience the hustle and bustle of Singapore with its diverse neighbourhoods, the lush, pristine rainforests and fascinating wildlife of Khao Sok National Park and the golden sands of Phuket&rsquo;s beaches.&nbsp;
A holiday to this part of the world is fantastic value for money. The accommodation throughout the holiday was all of a high quality and this ranged from a 3★+ tented camp to a 5★+ resort with a pool villa. Visitors can experience luxury for less in comparison to other holiday destinations around the world and wherever I was staying, the service from the staff was outstanding from start to finish.

Whilst I loved the variety the holiday offered, the highlight for me was the four day Rainforest Nature Safari at Elephant Hills Tented Camp. My favourite activities were learning about elephant conservation with the chance to meet and feed the elephants, a canoe safari exploring the Sok River searching for local wildlife including monkeys, birds and snakes and kayaking on the stunning Cheow Larn Lake. These days were action-packed, but never too full on, with downtime spent relaxing in the hammock by the tent or socialising by the bar. Guests in our group consisted of couples, families and friends and I believe is a must-visit for anyone visiting southern Thailand.

On a multi centre holiday around South East Asia, the start of the holiday typically tends to be fast-paced, exploring a bustling city, shopping at markets, sampling the local food and encountering unique wildlife. My top tip is to leave time at the end of the holiday to relax on one of the many beautiful beaches of Thailand. I couldn&rsquo;t have imagined flying straight home after my time at Elephant Hills &ndash; I would have been exhausted! I was really pleased the pace of my holiday slowed down for the second half and I factored in time to unwind by the coast to round off my adventure.

Vietnam is an absolute treasure, renowned for great food, culture and history. With an abundance of interesting temples, gardens, palaces and beaches, there is something for everyone.
I recently stayed at the wonderful 5* beach resort <a href="../../hotels/asia/vietnam/quy-nhon/anantara-quy-nhon-villas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Anantara Quy Nhon Villas</a> for two nights and arrived there in style by travelling on The Vietage by Anantara - a new luxury train service that links Danang and Quy Nhon, which offers delicious food, bottomless drinks and on board massages to make the six hour journey fly by!
&nbsp;

The Vietage by Anantara really provides a unique experience being Vietnam&rsquo;s first luxury train. From the moment you arrive at the train station, you are treated like royalty. Your luggage is taken for you to the luggage carriage while you relax in a private lounge with concierge service and offered local tea or prosecco while waiting to board the train.
Once onboard you are accommodated in your semi-private cabin furnished with comfortable seats and pillows with blankets and slippers for your comfort. Each cabin has a full-size window so you can observe the gorgeous Vietnamese landscape, quaint villages and postcard worthy rice fields with water buffalo and farmers wearing traditional conical n&oacute;n l&aacute; hats.
Just as the initial buzz of feeling like royalty was starting to wear off, I was then served a three course meal that was absolutely delicious, with each dish paired with an accompanying wine or spirit as suggested by the waiters. After dinner we retired to the private bar where you can socialise and taste local Vietnamese coffee made right in front of you.
On top of this already stunning experience, each passenger can take advantage of a neck and shoulder massage (approx. 20 minutes) to ensure you arrive feeling completely rejuvenated. It really is the best way to travel through this part of Vietnam!

The Vietage three course menu was to die for. Prepared by a renowned local chef on board the train, these meals just melt in your mouth. Coupled with the exceptional staff onboard with everyone being so friendly and professional; you are certain to experience a train journey of a lifetime.

Although the train is open to anyone, I strongly recommend using the train to transfer between the <a href="../../hotels/asia/vietnam/hoi-an-and-danang/anantara-hoi-an-resort" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Anantara Hoi An</a> 5* resort in the north and the <a href="../../hotels/asia/vietnam/quy-nhon/anantara-quy-nhon-villas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Anantara Quy Nhon Villas</a> 5* Resort 300 km further south. Just Back From… A Luxury Train Holiday in Vietnam

The period between June and August is the peak of Singapore&rsquo;s tourist season and during these months Singapore experiences its driest and sunniest weather. The 7 Best Beaches in Thailand

The island of Borneo houses diverse wildlife, untouched forests, and ancient mountains. Mix these ingredients together and you will have yourself an exciting concoction filled with adventure. With flights via Kuala Lumpur and a tropical southeast Asian climate, Borneo can be enjoyed for much of the year.

&nbsp;

The rainforest, commonly referred to as the Heart of Borneo, is one of the worlds oldest. Standing the test of time for 140 million years, the flora is towering and dense with canopies racing towards the sky for a glimpse of sunshine. What draws me to the rainforest is the array of colours, scents, and sounds it holds, a bustling metropolis of nature. During our stay along the Kinabatangan River, we were thrilled to spot orangutans high in the canopies, hornbills gliding in the sky and proboscis monkeys leaping from branch to branch.
&nbsp;

While lush scenery, rich wildlife and delicious Malay cuisine was incredible &ndash; my highlight has to be climbing the impressive Mount Kinabalu. Standing 4,095 metres above sea level, this towering beast may have destroyed my legs for a few days, but the journey, views and company make it all worthwhile. Even with the gruelling 1am start for the summit, in the dark, guided by a line of head torches. Once you see the sun peaking above the horizon from Malaysia&rsquo;s tallest mountain and the spectacular glow transforms the sky, it really is an incredible achievement.&nbsp; Standing at the summit with my mum is a memory I will cherish for a lifetime.

Just Back From… Borneo

Dazzling, modern and futuristic Marina Bay is home to a vast array of restaurants, bars, shops and boutiques, not to mention some of the world&rsquo;s most luxurious hotels. The pioneering Supertree Grove and enclosed Cloud Forest at Gardens by the Bay are well worth a visit but it&rsquo;s the glittering towers and soaring rooftop pool of Marina Bay Sands that dominate the spectacular waterfront scene.
&nbsp;

Boasting a wide array of exquisitely restored colonial architecture including the impressive National Gallery, beautiful Victoria Theatre and famed Raffles Hotel, the Civic District is the birthplace of modern Singapore. Flanked by Fort Canning Park and the historic Padang, home to the Singapore Cricket Club since 1852, this lovely area is also within walking distance of Marina Bay, Clarke Quay and Orchard Road.

Asia&rsquo;s most famous shopping street is a wide, tree-shaded avenue lined with an intoxicating medley of glitzy shopping malls, opulent fashion houses, luxury hotels, cinemas, restaurants, bars and clubs. Look out for Emerald Hill, a street of exquisite Chinese Baroque houses, located just off the main drag. Beyond the western end of Orchard Road are the beautiful Singapore Botanic Gardens and the charming restaurants of Dempsey Hill.

One of Singapore&rsquo;s most vibrant entertainment hubs, Clarke Quay boasts a tantalising range of restaurants, bars and nightclubs, many of which are open well into the early hours. Close to Chinatown and the Civic District this area is also home to some of the city&rsquo;s best value hotels. A short walk upriver is the more sedate Robertson Quay which also offers a wide range of restaurants and bars.
&nbsp;

Packed with smoky temples, restored heritage shophouses, Chinese medicine halls and a plethora of superb street-side dining opportunities Chinatown is one of Singapore&rsquo;s most atmospheric neighbourhoods. Chinatown food street boasts a wide array of excellent hawker stalls and shophouse restaurants whilst the famous food centre at Telok Ayer Market (Lau Pa Sat) is located a short walk southeast of the area.
&nbsp;

At its best during the festival of Deepavali, Serangoon Road and the atmospheric neighbouring streets offer a heady mix of sights, sounds and colours. This vibrant area boasts a bohemian vibe and is popular with artists, hipsters and foodies. The 24 hour Mustafa Centre is a shopping institution and the nearby Tekka Centre is Singapore&rsquo;s largest indoor wet market. Just to the south of Little India is the huge covered market of Bugis Street.

Where to Stay in Singapore

&lsquo;You&rsquo;re going to Sidemen? it&rsquo;s just like Ubud was 25-30 years ago...&rsquo; we were told several times by locals in Bali. This piqued my interest as the last time I was in Bali was 27 years ago&hellip;
After a beach stay in southern Bali, we first headed to Ubud which admittedly had changed a fair bit since 1996, although it's still a charming town with lovely scenery on the outskirts. Cafes, bakeries, arts and crafts and bars with live music ensure Ubud has retained its backpacker feel, despite some very luxurious hotels.&nbsp;
The drive from Ubud to Sidemen took two hours with rice fields, temples and mountains galore enroute.&nbsp;
The <a href="../../hotels/asia/indonesia/hidden-bali/wapa-di-ume-sidemen" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Wapa di Ume Sidemen</a> is beautiful and was staffed by the kind smiling people that make Bali such a special island.
&nbsp;

The village of Sidemen has stunning views with the backdrop of Mount Agung and the classic terraced rice fields you expect of Bali. Sidemen will no doubt get busier, but for now it has just a few craft shops and cafes and perhaps a dozen small guesthouses, some with little spas. It is reminiscent of South East Asia in the 80&rsquo;s and 90&rsquo;s with a very tranquil feel to it.
The Wapa di Ume Sidemen resort has been beautifully designed to blend in with the paddy-clad hillside. The two-tiered infinity pool is a particular highlight offering panoramic views over the valley.
&nbsp;

For those who crave a bit more excitement, the Telaga Waja River which runs past the hotel also offers white water rafting.
&nbsp;

My memories of 27 years ago might be a little hazy &ndash; but as charming as Ubud was and is, Sidemen is even better. The good news is that you don&rsquo;t have to choose &ndash; you can visit both.

Whether lounging in the two-level pool and listening to the soothing sounds of the Ayung River rushing below or sipping cocktails in a bar overlooking the verdant green treetops; I felt constantly rooted in the beauty of nature whilst still enjoying every luxury expected from a 5★+ resort.

A once-in-a-lifetime stay deserves once-in-a-lifetime accommodation and a One-Bedroom Villa provided just that. Spacious and secluded, this serene space had me feeling entirely at home, yet in another world altogether. Complete with an outdoor living area and a private plunge pool, this lavish jungle hideaway felt like something out of a fairy-tale.
Floating on my back in complete privacy, watching great rainforest leaves silhouetted against the sky above whilst the sounds of smells of the surrounding vegetation wafted by; I knew I was experiencing a travel moment that would stay with me forever.

Java doesn&rsquo;t necessarily offer the most relaxing introduction to Indonesia. Flying into the capital of Jakarta or the less frenetic Yogyakarta to the East will plunge travellers into the lively bustle of street markets, labyrinthine lanes and a charming jumble of cultures and architecture. For anyone who wants to throw themselves into the unrelentingly friendly culture it&rsquo;s the perfect place to start.&nbsp;
As much as I was unexpectedly enchanted by the cities, I was equally unprepared for just how spectacular the scenic landscapes and monumental temples would be. A visit to the Buddhist temple of Borobudur - a pyramid of bell-shaped stupas housing Buddha statues &ndash; was one of the most unique and memorable temples I've ever visited. Another unforgettable highlight was watching the sun rise above Mount Bromo as it sat in a lake of morning mist that slowly rolled across the plateau.&nbsp;
I&rsquo;d thought I might want to rush across this lesser-known island to reach its celebrity neighbour of Bali. As it turned out memories of Java are some of my most cherished.
