Singapore offers an appealing blend of rich cultural heritage, innovative architecture, lush green parks and gastronomic delights, and as well as being a superb place to stopover enroute to Australasia, is also a fantastic holiday destination in its own right. While this island nation is a year-round destination, there are certain times of the year when visiting Singapore can be particularly delightful.

Here we’ll explore the various seasons and events throughout the year, to help you decide on the best time to visit Singapore.

Peak Season

The period between June and August is the peak of Singapore’s tourist season and during these months Singapore experiences its driest and sunniest weather. It’s a great time to explore the city’s outdoor attractions such as the Gardens by the Bay, Sentosa Island and Singapore Zoo. Be ready for warm and humid days but don’t forget your umbrella; Singapore’s passing rain showers are always a possibility, whatever of the time of year.

Celebrate the Festivals

If you’re a fan of vibrant festivals, visiting Singapore during the Lunar New Year (usually falling in January or February) is an excellent choice. You’ll be treated to colourful parades, elaborate decorations, and traditional street performances that celebrate the arrival of the Chinese New Year. The streets come to life with lanterns, firecrackers, and an array of delicious street food, making it a exciting and culturally rich time to visit Singapore.

Avoid the Rain!

The months of September to December offer an enjoyable climate with slightly lower humidity and rainfall. It’s a great time to visit Singapore without the blazing heat and uncomfortable humidity of the mid-year months. Be sure to check out the Christmas displays along Orchard Road in December and attend the renowned Singapore Grand Prix, usually held in September, for a thrilling Formula One experience.

Budget Travel

For more budget-conscious holidaymakers, the period between February and April is a great time to visit Singapore. This marks the shoulder season when hotel rates are generally lower and you can still enjoy some clement weather. At this time of the year Singapore may experience the odd rain shower but they’re usually short-lived, and there are plenty of indoor activities to choose from, like exploring museums or feasting on delectable street food at one of the many hawker centres.

Plan Around Special Events

Singapore hosts numerous special events and festivals throughout the year. If you’re into the arts, visit during the Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) held in May. Food enthusiasts can explore the Singapore Food Festival, held every July. The Lantern Festival is one of the most popular events in Singapore; it marks the end of the Chinese New Year Celebrations and thousands of paper lanterns are released into the night sky. In August, the Singapore Night Festival sees heritage buildings across the city adorned with colourful lights.
