South Korea is a wonderful blend of old and new. Soaring skyscrapers and the latest technology sit side by side with historic monuments and traditional cultures to enchant all who visit.

But where are the best places to visit in South Korea? Read on to find out…

Seoul

South Korea’s exciting capital is a sprawling metropolis of contrasts. Dazzling neon-lit streets, futuristic architecture and an energetic K-Pop scene sit alongside historic palaces, traditional markets and street food stalls.

Near to the city is the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), a two mile wide strip of no-man’s land which acts as a border between North and South Korea.

Andong

A peaceful city on the banks of the Nakdonggang River and surrounded by mountains, Andong is the best place to visit in South Korea to gain an insight into the country’s rich national folk heritage and culture at the Hahoe Cultural Village.

The village is home to impeccably preserved hanoks (traditional wooden houses), the annual masked dance festival and a number of artisan workshops.

Gyeongju

Established as the capital of the ancient Silla Kingdom approximately 2,000 years ago, the cultural gem of Gyeongju is affectionately known as the ‘museum without walls’.

The country’s only historical national park is a treasure trove of temples, palaces and royal tombs and well worth taking a couple of days to explore the city and surrounding mountain scenery.
