With its sparkling turquoise waters, overwater bungalows and colourful marine life, it’s no wonder that the Maldives is a dream destination for many. When planning your trip to this beautiful destination, the timing of your visit can considerably impact your experience.

Here we explore the best time to visit the Maldives, to ensure you make the most of your stay in this pristine paradise.

Weather Conditions

The Maldives experiences two marked seasons: the dry season and the wet season. The best time to visit the Maldives is during the dry season, which generally runs from November to April. During this period the weather is characterised by clear blue skies, plenty of warm sunshine and little rainfall. At this time of year, the Maldives’ calm, warm waters are ideal for snorkelling, diving and a host of watersports.

Peak Season

The peak tourist season in the Maldives coincides with the dry season, from December to March. This is when you can expect incredible beach weather and perfect conditions for underwater exploration (diving and snorkelling). However, these attributes often come with higher prices and busier resorts. To avoid the crowds and ensure better hotel deals, think about visiting in the shoulder season months of November and April.

Off-Peak Season

The wet season, from May to October, is considered the off-peak period in the Maldives. While it may discourage some holidaymakers due to the sporadic rainfall and rise in humidity, this season also has its benefits. The Maldives marine life is still abundant, and you can find some great deals on accommodation during this time. Just be prepared for the prospect of some rain!
