In this series, we share recent experiences had by Trailfinders staff on their personal holidays. Whether it’s a unique place to stay or an interesting region to visit, you’ll get inspiration from those who have been.

This edition sees Bethanie Hall from our Marketing team discuss her recent experience staying at the beautiful Carlisle Bay in Antigua.

Where?

Carlisle Bay sits on an idyllic horseshoe bay on the southwest coast of Antigua with a backdrop of beautiful rolling hills and lush tropical rainforest.

Temperatures in Antigua are consistent all year round averaging high 20s.

This hotel is stacked with facilities, so to make the most of them you would want to spend at least a week here. I took my mum, and we combined our stay with another hotel on the island but if you have the time, I think it could also work wonderfully as a twin centre with another Caribbean destination.

Why go?

The standard of Carlisle Bay is exceptional. My mum, who very much enjoys holidays where she can completely switch off & do very little, was in paradise. With its warm, sapphire waters, comfy sun loungers (complete with afternoon tea delivery) sitting on a beach of white sand, this hotel is a dream holiday for any ardent beach lover.

For those that want to fill their days with more active ventures, there’s numerous inclusions, ranging from tennis, yoga and even hobie-cat sailing lessons! Additionally, the food was exquisite and with an ever-changing menu; we never ate the same thing twice.

Highlight?

The level of service was incredible, with everyone on hand to assist. The food here was as delectable as it was plentiful, with the hotel periodically serving traditional beach BBQs - you never went hungry!

I would really recommend making use of the hotel’s hiking guides, with plenty of routes in the area to be explored. We climbed Signal Hill on one of our more active days and were rewarded with resplendent views of the island. If you’re at Carlisle Bay on a Sunday, you can join a hike to Mount Obama- the highest point on the island.
