Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive in New Orleans
Welcome to the Big Easy! This captivating city will entice you with its combination of intriguing history and joyful atmosphere. Here you'll find live jazz, delicious Creole food, Voodoo legends, endless cocktails, vibrant nightlife and legendary festivals. It's no wonder that New Orleans' motto is 'let the good times roll'.
Day 2 The Heart of New Orleans
The famous French Quarter is the oldest part of the city and is a joy to explore. Historic buildings with intricate ironwork balconies abound as do cafes, restaurants and bars. Stroll along charming Royal Street with its antique shops and art galleries and enjoy the entertainment in Jackson Square. In the evening head to boisterous Bourbon Street to revel the night away. If that sounds too lively then there are plenty of quieter French Quarter spots to enjoy a cocktail!
Day 3 Beyond the French Quarter
Of course there is more to New Orleans than just the French Quarter. Today why not hop on board the iconic St Charles Streetcar to the delightful Garden District, this affluent neighbourhood is filled with tree lined streets and grand, historic mansions. It's also home to one of New Orleans' more curious attractions, Lafayette Cemetery No.1, an above ground cemetery. This evening it's time to experience some jazz in the city where it was born! So head over to Frenchman Street to one of the cool jazz clubs that dot the street. Or alternatively get your jazz fix whilst enjoying dinner aboard a Mississippi paddle steamer.
Day 4 Louisiana Day Trip
It would be a shame to come all this way and not go a little further afield to see what else Louisiana has to offer. It's easy to head out in to the Louisiana countryside, especially if you do it on an organised day tour from the city. Perhaps join a Louisiana Plantation tour where you'll visit a historic mansion along the Great River Road. Or maybe venture in to Cajun Country for a Swamp and Bayou tour. Cruise along these tranquil waters and keep an eye out for local wildlife – maybe even spot some alligators.
Day 5 Depart New Orleans
Enjoy a final morning to wander around the French Quarter, perhaps stopping at a cafe for some traditional beignet and a cafe au lait. Lunchtime is your last chance for some authentic gumbo, or jambalaya and perhaps make room for some banana fosters for dessert. Then head to the airport for your flight home or onward travel.
