Itinerary
Day 1 Atlanta
Arrive in vibrant Atlanta, a cavalcade of culture, cuisine and hospitality. Head out for a decadent southern meal and savour your first peach cobbler.
Days 2-3 Atlanta
Explore the many sights of ‘the Capital of the South’. Visit important landmarks from the Civil Rights Movement, walking in the footsteps of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, or perhaps head to the excellent National Center for Civil & Human Rights.
Days 4-5 Jekyll Island
Pick up your car and head for the tranquil shores of Jekyll Island. Stroll down Driftwood Beach, where the sand-blasted ghosts of a maritime forest make striking silhouettes against the ocean.
Days 6-7 Savannah
Next stop is Savannah, a ravishing riverside city with cobbled streets lined with trees veiled in Spanish moss. Take in the stunning river views and see the iconic fountain in Forsyth Park.
Days 8-9 Hilton Head
Hop across the state line into South Carolina and up to Hilton Head Island. Meander along 60 miles of cycling trails, enjoy a round of golf or perhaps head out on a dolphin watching cruise.
Days 10-11 Charleston
Romantic Charleston is one of the bestpreserved cities in the USA. Meander through antebellum mansions draped with wisteria and jasmine, then feast on more southern delicacies, such as shrimp and grits or she-crab soup, washed down with a sweet peach tea.
Day 12 Charleston to Asheville
Journey inland to eclectic Asheville, a creative city with a distinctly bohemian feel. Be sure to visit to the Biltmore, the largest privately owned house in America.
Day 13 Great Smoky Mountains NP
Discover America’s most loved national park, The Great Smoky Mountains. Trek along wildflower dotted tracks to find waterfalls hidden amongst towering trees and clearings that reveal jaw-dropping panoramic vistas.
Day 14 Asheville to Franklin
Your next stop is the small town of Franklin on the doorstep of Nantahala National Forest. Maybe try your hand at gem mining or walk behind the frothing cascade of the 75ft Dry Falls.
Days 15-16 Helen
Continue chasing waterfalls in pristine northern Georgia. Cross the suspension bridge at Tallulah Gorge State Park for spectacular views of the canyon and falls below, then visit a vineyard in nearby Dahlonega to sample award-winning local wine.
Day 17 Helen to Atlanta
Pay a visit to Atlanta’s extraordinary multisensory Illuminarium before dropping off your car at the airport.
