Itinerary
Day 1 Antigua
Arrive into Guatemala City and transfer to the charming colonial city of Antigua.
Day 2 Antigua
This morning discover the fascinating highlights of Guatemala’s former capital on a half day walking tour, taking in the major architectural and historical sites of this captivating city.
Day 3 Antigua to Livingston
Journey by road and boat to the vibrant town of Livingston, stopping en route to marvel at the elaborately intricate carvings found at the Mayan ruins of Quiriguá.
Day 4 Livingston to El Petén
Take a scenic boat trip along the Rio Dulce River as it winds through the impressive central canyon enveloped by lush tropical jungle and continue by road to El Petén.
Day 5 Yaxhá
Explore the mystical ruins in Yaxhá National Park, set on the banks of a beautiful lagoon. Trek through the pristine rainforest to reach these atmospheric temples and admire the spectacular views as the sun sets over this incredible site.
Day 6 Tikal
Head to the awe-inspiring Mayan site of Tikal, regarded as one of the archaeological wonders of the Americas. This impressive national park is a stunning paradise where you can discover towering pyramidal ruins which pierce through verdant treetops and spot myriad birdlife hidden amongst unspoilt jungle scenery.
Day 7 El Petén to Lake Atitlán
Fly from Flores to Guatemala City and drive to Lake Atitlán, exploring the archaeological site of Iximché on the way.
Day 8 Lake Atitlán
Spend a full day discovering the delightful villages which surround the lake. Hear the stories of Mayan deities, watch shaman perform captivating rituals and learn about the history of these traditional towns. Visit a local workshop to see how the distinctive textiles of this region are made.
Day 9 Lake Atitlán
Enjoy a day at leisure to unwind and take in the stunning views of this beautiful area.
Day 10 Lake Atitlán to Antigua
Depart Lake Atitlán for a scenic drive through the central highlands back to Antigua, stopping at the charming town of Chichicastenago en route. Sundays and Thursdays are market days when the streets burst into life and colour. Explore the local area where vendors sell fruit, vegetables and everyday items, and shop for colourful textiles and handmade souvenirs amongst the stalls of the craft area.
Day 11 Antigua
Transfer to Guatemala City for your onward travel arrangements.
