Itinerary
Day 1 San Jose
Arrive in San
Jose and transfer to your hotel.
Day 2 Poas
Volcano National Park
This morning visit
one of Costa Rica’s most active volcanoes in the Poas Volcano National
Park. Continue on to the town of Sarchi, famed for its arts and crafts,
before returning to San Jose for the evening.
Days 3-4 San
Jose to San Gerardo de Dota
Drive south to
the impressive cloud forest of Savegre and spend the day exploring its
many trails with your expert guide. On day 4, rise early as you head out
in search of the elusive resplendent quetzal, 1 of over 200 species of
bird found in this region. The rest of the day is free at your leisure
to continue taking in the varied flora and fauna of the region.
Day 5 San Gerardo
de Dota to Turrialba
Travel to the
agricultural hub of Turrialba and spend the day exploring at your leisure
before visiting a finca (farm) for a traditional evening meal.
Day 6 Pacuare
River
For those thrill
seekers, start your morning White Water Raft down the Pacuare River, one
of the most scenic in Costa Rica, alternatively opt to visit the botanical
garden in CATIE or Aquiares coffee plantation.
Days 7-8 Turrialba
to Tortuguero
Journey by bus
and boat to the village of Tortuguero, your home for the next 2 nights.
Discover why Tortuguero is often referred to as ‘mini Amazon’ as you
spend day 8 spotting the areas diverse wildlife including ocelots, howler
monkey and the incredibly elusive jaguar.
Day 9 Tortuguero
to Sarapiqui
Depart Tortuguero
and head to Puerto Viejo Sarapiqui where you can take part in an afternoon
chocolate tour before heading out in the evening on a night walk to spot
nocturnal wildlife.
Day 10 Sarapiqui
to Arenal
After a morning
spent walking the trails of the Selva Verde Reserve you will travel to
the Arenal Volcano National Park where you will spend the next two nights.
Day 11 Arenal
Spend the day
exploring the region at your leisure, you could opt to trek to a waterfall,
enjoy a volcanic mud spa treatment or even try to search for sloths on
a wildlife tour.
Day 12 Arenal
to Manuel Antonio
Embark down the
Pacific Coast, visiting the Carara Biological Reserve en route to the Manuel
Antonio National Park.
Days 13-14
Manuel Antonio
The next two days
will be spent relaxing on the beaches or searching for the wildlife of
Manuel Antonio. As an area famed for being rich in wildlife, this will
be one of your best chances to spot a wild sloth.
Day 15 Manuel
Antonio to San Jose
Return to San
Jose airport for your flight home.
Departs: Frequent departures, Jan - Apr & Jul - Dec.
