Itinerary
Day 1 Kathmandu
Arrive in Kathmandu and make your own way to your hotel to meet your tour leader and fellow travellers.
Day 2 Kathmandu to Phakding
Fly this morning to the mountain airstrip at Lukla. Set off on a warm up walk and head north along the valley of Dhudh Kosi River. The trail offers lovely views before reaching Phakding.
Day 3 Phakding to Namche Bazaar
You’re still well below the tree line at 2,650m and this trek passes through beautiful forests of rhododendron, giant fir and magnolia trees. If the weather is clear, you’ll have your first glimpse of towering Everest today before reaching the village of Namche Bazaar, home to a bustling market.
Day 4 Namche Bazaar to Kyanjuma
Today begins with a steep climb, rewarded with amazing views. Stop at the Edmund Hillary Hospital at Kunde before descending to Kyanjuma.
Day 5 Kyanjuma to Thyangboche
Climb through the forest to Thyangboche at nearly 4,000m before an afternoon visit to a monastery. The sunset here is particularly special.
Days 6-7 Thyangboche to Dingboche
Following the Imja Khola valley, this undulating trail at first descends to Devoche, before steadily climbing to Pangboche, the highest permanent settlement in this valley. A further steep climb brings you to Dingboche at 4,500m. Day 7 is a rest day for acclimatisation.
Day 8 Dingboche to Lobuje
Admire the Khumbu Glacier this morning before climbing to Chukpo Lari, home to a line of memorials to the climbers who have died on Everest. Continue on an easier trail to Lobuje where you can admire the sunset over Nuptse.
Day 9 Lobuje to Gorak Shep
Make an early start for the tough climb to Gorak Shep and stop for a rest at the high altitude frozen lake bed. Continue along the Khumbu Glacier for the long, hard trek to Everest Base Camp. The camp enjoys amazing views; revel in the kudos of making it this far and look out for departing expedition teams before descending back to Gorak Shep where you’ll stay for the night.
Day 10 Gorak Shep to Pheriche
Today is another challenging trek to the peak of Kala Pattar at over 5,500m which boasts wonderful views of Everest. Descend to Pheriche where you’ll stay overnight at a lower altitude.
Day 11 Pheriche to Kyanjuma
Passing through alpine meadows and crossing rushing rivers, today is a little more relaxed as you make your way back to Kyanjuma.
Day 12 Kyanjuma to Monzo
The views from high above the Dudh Kosi are spectacular. Follow the trail to Namche Bazaar and stop for lunch before continuing to Monzo.
Day 13 Monzo to Lukla
Enjoy your final trek today as you climb to Lukla via Chaunrikhara.
Days 14-16 Lukla to Kathmandu
