Weeks 3-8 Independent Travel: Nepal to Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam & Laos
Say goodbye to your guide, it’s time to spread your wings – either travelling solo or with some of your newfound friends! Take a last look at Kathmandu’s rugged Himalayan horizon and fly to the backpacker Mecca of Bangkok. You can explore South East Asia independently with your travel pass, using public transport for an authentic experience and including an amazing range of local tours, all without a fixed date. After exploring bustling Bangkok on a local bike tour, head north to friendly Chiang Mai. Take an overnight hike through hill tribe villages, staying at a private jungle camp and cooling off with a dip in a waterfall. Wave goodbye to Thailand as you head down the Mekong to Laos. See Luang Prabang’s ornate temples then move on to Vang Vieng, where you’ll get your adrenaline pumping with a day of caves, kayaks and ziplines! Next up is Vietnam - float past Halong’s legendary limestone karsts, get treated to a homemade family meal in Hanoi, snorkel with iridescent marine life off Mun Island, hop on the back of a motorbike to see Dalat’s serene countryside, and so much more. After an important glimpse into Phnom Penh’s troubled past, wrap up in Siem Reap to discover the once lost Temples of Angkor. Get your Tomb Raider photo at iconic Ta Prohm, and make your way back to Bangkok.
Weeks 9-12 Group Adventure Tour: Thailand to Malaysia, Singapore & Indonesia
With a few more stamps in your passport, meet your G Adventures group for the meandering journey south. See some of Thailand’s most breath-taking beaches as you make your way down the gulf, through the azure waters and dense rainforest of Khao Sok Marine Park and the white sands of Koh Samui. Say cheers to Thailand over sunset drinks and get ready to tick off another country, Malaysia. Feast on some of Asia’s finest street food in the colourful lanes of Penang, and experience a local family’s warm hospitality at a rural homestay. Take advantage of the Cameron Highland’s cooler temperatures to hike forest trails in search of the world’s largest flower, before soaking up the famous skylines of Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
Accompanied by your group and guide, fly to Jakarta for the last leg of your adventure. Dive deep into Indonesia’s serene countryside, visiting floating villages and tea plantations, learning the thousand year history of Yogyakarta’s intricate temples, and challenging yourself to the pre-dawn hike across the Sea of Sand to Mount Bromo’s smoking crater. After giving yourself a pat on the back (and a celebratory beer) continue to the coast. For your final days exploring Indonesia’s stunning islands, perhaps enjoy a surf lesson, head below the waves scuba diving or simply while away the hours in a hammock. Complete your unforgettable journey through Asia with a big night out with your new lifelong friends before heading home or perhaps taking on more travel.
