Itinerary
Day 1 Tokyo Arrive in Tokyo
Meet your fellow travellers at a welcome meeting this evening.
Day 2 Tokyo
Discover the oldest temple in the city, Senso-ji Temple, before attending a morning fire service at Fudo-do Temple. This afternoon visit Meiji Jingu shrine, then head to Shibuya crossing to explore.
Day 3 Tokyo
Enjoy a day at leisure to seek out the parts of Tokyo you would most like to see.
Day 4 Tokyo to Matsumoto
Journey to Matsumoto and explore the town’s 500-year-old castle, Japan’s oldest and most elegant.
Day 5 Matsumoto to Nagano
Visit Jigokudani Onsen, home to Japan’s indigenous snow monkeys and observe them as they bathe in the hot springs. This evening, enjoy spending the night at Zenkoji Temple in Nagano, one of the earliest Buddhist temples in Japan.
Days 6-7 Nagano to Kanazawa
Rise early to join the monks for morning prayer, then continue to the samurai district of Kanazawa. Spend a day at leisure exploring the sights of Kanazawa at your own pace.
Day 8 Kanazawa to Takayama
Travel to authentic Takayama and explore the narrow streets of the Sanmachi Suji district. Sample some sake at a traditional distillery before spending the night in a family run minshuku, a traditional Japanese guesthouse.
Days 9-10 Takayama to Hiroshima
Travel on the famous Shinkansen bullet train to Hiroshima where you will visit the moving Peace Memorial Park and museum. On day 10 take a small ferry to Miyajima, a tiny island where deer roam freely. See the floating torii gate and head back to Hiroshima for the night.
Day 11 Hiroshima to Kyoto
Head to Kyoto this morning and explore the imperial Nijo Castle. Marvel at the extensive gardens and impressive architecture.
Day 12 Kyoto
Spend a day at leisure discovering Kyoto. Perhaps explore the Zen gardens, temples, and the geisha district.
Day 13 Kyoto to Osaka
Spend the morning exploring Kyoto before travelling to Osaka. Visit the Namba area, one of Osaka’s most vibrant and interesting districts.
Day 14 Osaka
Your tour comes to an end in Osaka. Depart any time.
