Itinerary
Days 1-2 Tokyo
Discover the modern and ancient sides of this dynamic metropolis, from vibrant neighbourhoods to historic temples on a full day private city tour.
Day 3 Tokyo
A day to explore Tokyo at leisure. Why not sample exquisite Japanese cuisine on Tokyo’s Street Food tour?
Day 4 Tokyo to Fuji Hakone NP
Take the train to Hakone’s scenic lakes and peaks. Ride the cable car up Mount Owakudani before a boat trip across Lake Ashinoko; on a clear day you may catch glimpses of Mount Fuji. Stay overnight in a ryokan where you’ll enjoy a traditional Japanese dinner and take a dip in the onsen.
Day 5 Fuji Hakone NP to Kyoto
Catch the train to Kyoto. Visit a traditional wooden townhouse to try on a kimono and learn the intricacies of a traditional Japanese tea ceremony.
Day 6 Kyoto
Meet your guide and spend the day visiting Kyoto’s many treasures including stunning Kiyomizudera Temple.
Day 7 Nara
Just a short train ride from Kyoto, historic Nara was Japan’s first capital. It still retains many of its 8th Century temples and shrines and is home to herds of tame deer.
Day 8 Kyoto to Hiroshima
Catch the train to Hiroshima, stopping en route to visit Himeji’s magnificent 17th Century castle.
Day 9 Hiroshima & Miyajima Island
Visit the sobering Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and Park. Later take a short ferry ride to Miyajima Island. Explore the island’s many other shrines and temples by bike or on foot, or take the cable car up Mount Misen for panoramic views.
Day 10 Hiroshima to Osaka
Catch the train to Osaka. In the evening join our Flavours of Osaka tour to see why the city lives up to its motto of ‘eat till you drop’!
Day 11 Osaka
Transfer to the airport.
Additional Options: During your time in Hiroshima, why not take to the calm waters of the Seto Inland Sea on a kayaking adventure? After an informative introductory lesson, paddle across calm waters and around the scenic shoreline of the sacred island of Miyajima, getting up close to one of Japan’s most photographed sites, the floating torii gate of Itukushima – be sure to bring your camera!
